***OCTOBER 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

@jetynz there are parents here who have posted well over 10k times. The site had been a fabulous resource for us, we’ve been able to uncover a great set of schools for our kids, we’ve used the act and sat tutoring guides, found which schools offer the highest merit scholarships, and we’ve been able to get questions answered by college students and adcoms My kids do know I post here and are always welcome to look at my posts. We have gone to real people for advice as well but I don’t see the difference between you and I looking for advice here.

I guess to some. working with my kids may seem like micromanagement. My interaction with them has been to get them to commit to 45 mins of study per day and one practice test per week. If they can’t figure out a question or, more likely, a class of questions, we spend time together figuring it out. Back in the day I minored in English and, as such, I’m in a good position to provide feedback on their essays.

we’re pretty far afield from the thread topic so I’m going to bow out of the conversation. again jetynz, best to you. You write and communicate well, I’m sure you’ll do well on the ACT and your college selection.

If parents are on here, it is bc they care about their children and are involved in their children’s lives. There is nothing wrong with that. I love that my father goes on this site to see what other kids think and how I compare and such. I am so happy that both my parents take such an interest in my sister’s and my life. What gives anybody the right to ask them to stop doing so on a website accessible for all…

lol why is every other one of these forums like 300 pages and this is only 20

@TheIG19 I know right, the September ACT thread has like 4 thousand replies! lol

Does anyone want to make a curve prediction?

Also how much weight do colleges give to the writing section of the ACT? I scored a 36 on the September writing so I’m hoping that carries some weight.

Did anyone else have a proctor that didn’t walk around or even look up during the test? I was kind of shocked.
Also, why was my proctor writing in a notebook for most of the test?

My proctor walked around a few times but sat at a desk for the majority of the test. They were also writing in a notebook; it worried be me a bit for whatever reason.

@TheFutureDoc16 the length of the september act forum is probably because some of us haven’t received our essay scores yet… -_-

@newrecruit The writing worried me too, I’m not sure why

Writing was easy. The reading section was horrible. Science was kind of weird tbh.
Can’t wait for my score. got a 29 last time, need that 31+

@songmino WOW… I hadn’t realized that some people still didn’t have scores. Hope you get them soon

@abcd55985dhd I got a 29 last time too, but I am just hoping for a 30+. :stuck_out_tongue: I agree with you on reading! It was so difficult! :frowning: I had to guess on a ton, so I am thinking I am going to have to superscore my reading. (Got a 30 on reading last time)

I felt super rushed on reading. I think I got mostly correct answers but I probably missed some. Math was easy but others have said it was tough so we’ll see. Science and English were pretty easy. Hoping for a 32+.

I thought this test was very fair. I didn’t study at all for the June ACT and I meant to study for this one but I forgot. Whoops. I took the June test and was surprised that my weakest section was math, so I retook it. For the June test my composite score was 34, but I felt that this test was significantly easier so I might not even have to superscore.

This was my first time taking the test, can someone explain to me how the curves work? Like I know for practice tests certain ones you could miss 3 and get a 35, or miss 3 and get a 34 on another, etc. Is that the curve you are talking about or is there an additional one?

Curve predictions?

-1=36 E
-1/2= 36 M
-1= 36 R
-0= 36 S

But I felt like the math as a whole was easier than the September one(it was a miracle I scored a 28 on it) but I feel like I did worse on this one.
Science was brutal in my opinion.
English was eh. I thought I did really good on the September one and only scored a 29 so I can’t gage how I feel on this one.
Reading was harder than September but I got a 33 on that one so I’m not too worried.
Overall I’m just trying to improve on one or two sections on this act so I can superstore my ACT to a 30 or above.
