October 25, 2008 ACT Discussion- English

School Searching, that's not right. On the other hand is a contradiction, and taht doesn't say how it would be used to say something that they didn't know.

schoolsearching, it's asking for which of the choices would make it seem like historians didn't know much of about her life

Didn't move any paragraphs, 95% sure it was apparently. It said "not much is known about.." obviously it's apparently because it shows a slight bit of unsurity (lol not a word, etc.

The question asked which option would show that we don't know that much of her life. I put apparently.

How about the question RIGHT before the who/whom question in the ''3 sisters'' passage? It went sorta like this ,''WHAT they know, the ...............''.

''WHAT'' was the underlined word and the choices were how, which,?, no change. I chose ''no change''

And what about the First or second question in the inventor English passage? It started off with a quote and the sentence after it had the first word as ,"However'' They asked which one is LEAST acceptable: On the other hand, nevertheless, Still, Instead. I chose ''instead'' as the least acceptable.

I got the same stuff you did.

I put as for the "what" underlined one

I chose still because the rest presented contrasts which fit

From this point or From this point ahead

.... I had "ahead" but switched to "point" .... I am going to kick my self in the ayy if I got this one wrong and it keeps me from my 36 .... agghhghghg

I put ahead....

point ahead is not idiomatically correct, i think

from this point ahead

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH dwareq4364bi57-=5390e=n9586m7n5=n94b865,m0=n84,m506=,mn05=674=n9563n6

SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that sucks :'(

So much for my 36 in English.... unless there's a generous curve :(

ayrh=w5eyb04=w59b=mwn96547536m7=9536m74n,6574mn6

How about the who/whom question.... was it who/who? because that's what I got...

^I put "As"

Also, I think I put "apparently"

And I didn't change any of the paragrahs (i kept them as is).

I kept it as "who/who"...I think my reasoning had something to do with parallel structure.

I put whom/who after having who/who bubbled in. I will be very pis.... i mean mad if I had the right answer then changed it.

Amb: It wouldn't have been about parallel structure -- it would have been about the correct usage of who/whom, but let's hope we're right anyway! :P

"on the other hand" is correct.

the sentence before it was talking about how she may have been invited to court because of her writing skills. then the sentence after said she wrote the Tale of Genji and her famous works while at court.

It doesn't make sense to say apparently there:

"She may have been invited to court for her writing skills. Apparently, she wrote her famous works at court."

On the other hand makes sense:

"She may have been inviited to court for her writing skills. On the other hand, she wrote her famous works at court."

fizban119, the question asked which would show that historians don't know much about her. apparently still makes more sense.

According to my December test, this is the breakdown for the scores. Note that this is a rough approximation because all curves are different.
-7 is around a 30
-6 is around a 31
-5 is around a 32
-4 is around a 33
-3 is around a 34
-2 is around a 35
-1 is around a 35
