October SAT/General SAT Question

Hey,

I am currently signed up for the October SAT. I have taken the SAT two times previously, and was wondering if I DO take this October SAT, but then cancel the scores, if it shows up on my record that I ever took the SAT in October.

The reason for me asking this question is that I plan to sign up for the November SAT in order to give myself a little more time to prepare, and get above the highest score i possibly can.

I called College Board, and the lady told me that if I cancel my scores by the Wednesday after the test, colleges will not know that I took the test in October.

Basically, my question is this: If I take this October SAT, cancel the scores, and then take the November SAT, will it count as if I only took the test 3 times? (I have taken the test last may/june, so 2 times previously).

Thanks for your help

Yes, if you cancel your Oct. test by the time given, it will be cleared. Your 3rd time will count as your November test.

Why not take the test and just not opt to have your scores automatically sent to schools?
With the new SAT score reporting policy you can choose which scores to submit to schools and which not to. If you aren't happy with your October scores---don't submit them. You won't know how you did until Oct. 23rd at the earliest (by web). And you need to register for the November exam by Oct. 10th (with a late fee!).

Why do you only want to take the SAT 3 times? I don't get it...

B/c after your third test, some schools will average out all your scores.

To anita: that implies for 2010ers and later. it doesnt imply for 2009

Very true! But the website also states:

Any student who has taken an SAT prior to the policy launch or who registers for the SAT after launch will be able to take advantage of this new policy. The students who have taken tests prior to the launch can use the score-reporting feature retroactively. Additionally, this new score-reporting feature will be optional to students. If a student chooses not to select their scores, all of their scores will be sent.

I would assume this includes people taking it now. It looks like the policy will "launch" in March 2009. So I guess it depends on what date you must have your SAT scores submitted to the colleges you are applying to. This date sometimes differs from the application deadline. Often they allow you to submit your SAT scores a bit later.

If your school doesn't need your scores until the Spring,..then you could use this policy retroactively. And for any juniors taking the exam now---you can definitely apply this policy.

I think the real beneficiaries of this are Class of 2010 and beyond.

Inter: So are you just taking it b/c you paid for it and you want to use it as a practice? What if you leave there and feel you did much better than the 1st 2 times? Will you still cancel it? If you don't cancel and your scores weren't what you hoped for, will you still re-take in Nov, thus 4 times? Be careful! (I don't believe schools will know you took test if you cancel within SATs deadline.)

Are your scores thus far decent with regard to the schools you are applying to, and are you just trying to bump them up, or do you feel you need to improve significantly?
