Off campus housing for married students

Hello all,

I am a transfer student who will be attending Cal Poly SLO Fall 2011 in Electrical Engineering. I am currently looking into housing for my wife and I, preferably close to the college but necessary. We are hoping for a 2 bedroom apartment at a reasonable price (<1000-1100 per month) that is not located in a “party complex”. I’ve visited Mustang Village’s website and they look nice but I have also read of partying going on there. Any advice would be appreciated, and I apologize if I have overlooked an existing thread on this subject.

Thanks.

Mustang is something of a party complex, but some parts (namely, the studios) are alright. If you want to avoid parties, avoid Mustang II and the flats and 2 story townhomes here. This year, rent looks like it’s between $775 - $1000 a month, depending where in the complex you are.

Last year while I was looking for housing, the cheapest 2 bedroom apartments I found were ~$1,100/month. I haven’t really started looking for housing for next year yet (yeah, I should get on that), but I would expect it to be much the same this year. Most of those were not exactly close to campus (I remember them being near downtown), however there were exceptions. I even saw a two-bedroom house listed for $1,200/month at the bottom of Grand, Av.

I’ll go ahead and post some of the links to the local landlords. Be advised that this is not necessarily an endorsement. Some of the local property management companies are not entirely honest (see this: [Rental experience goes to the bitter end Mustang Daily – News for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo](http://mustangdaily.net/rental-experience-aftermath/) [Rats, termites and mold, Oh my!
University housing also maintains an off-campus housing listing system or two:

There are also a few other apartment complexes around:

and many more that I can’t remember off the top of my head, and didn’t end up in my rental hunting spreadsheet last year.
