For off-campus housing, would you say there are more houses or more apartments available? Which of the two are more popular among students?

Since it is right in the heart of DC, apartments are much more common. That being said, the majority of students stay in dorms, on campus. There are a some row houses on the west side of campus, across 24th street.

Houses are very uncommon unless you want to get far away from campus. Most students that live off campus will either find an affordable apartment within a few metro stops away, or they’ll find a condo/townhouse that already has tenants looking for another roommate. Craigslist is a great way to find out about the latter.

Outside DC, there’s quite a few affordable apartments in the Northern Virginia area, only 10-15 away on the Metro.

My daughter had an apartment within walking distance of campus her senior year, she shared a 2 bedroom, 2 bath place with 3 other girls to make it affordable though.
