Off-Campus Housing

I’m an incoming transfer student from CA and I’d like to find out if and where in nearby AU area has the best off-campus housing available (building names, location, etc.). Below are some factors that I’d consider:

  1. Is the neighborhood safe? (Would parts of AU Park, Tenleytown, Chevy Chase & Forest Hills be considered relatively safe than the metro DC area?)
  2. Newer apartment with good amount of amenities (In-unit WD, parking structure to place my car that can withstand DC winter)
  3. Commute (Relatively close to the AU campus)

I’ve found numerous shared 1B/1Ba options but I want to stay independent and have my own place. If you’ve had lived in DC and attended AU/GWU/Georgetown, please comment and share your wisdom on here. THANKS!

All of the areas around AU are among the safest in the DC area. Don’t let that give you any concern. Here are some popular apartment buildings among AU students:

The Berkshire on Massachusetts
The Avalon, also on Massachusetts
The AVA Van Ness
4000 Massachusetts Ave apartments

Definitively love off campus. It’s fun and you save lots of money.
