My son has been admitted to BoCo and is also looking at NEC.
BoCo students live on campus 1 year. For those of you who have students who live in Boston, how easy is it to find off campus housing that is near the conservatory? How expensive is that housing is probably the better question.
Obviously roommates help. Some people I know live in Jamaica Plain which is a quick trip by subway but not considered part of the center of the city, and a little more affordable.
My understanding is freshman are no longer required to live on campus at BoCo. There are definitely cheaper options!
When we toured Berklee the student guide said that many students live in Allston because it was cheaper. But I get the feeling cheaper in Boston is still pricey. Sorry I don’t have an amount, we didn’t ask.
My son has several friends in Boston. One sophomore friend is sharing a 3-bedroom apartment with 2 roommates (total 3) for $3900/month, within 4-5 blocks to Berklee. I don’t know about utility / internet is included or not. His freshman friend at Berklee (who is currently looking for housing for next academic year) said that $3900 for 3-bedroom is cheap.
It is possible to do better than $1300+ each in Boston/Cambridge area. Location near the T is important for students, if they aren’t going to live close enough to walk. If a rent like $1300 is acceptable, it would indeed be possible to live within walking distance of BoCo.
