Question about area around Boston Conservatory

Any know honestly how safe area right around Boston Conservatory is? Kid currently lives in Boston in another area near another school. Trying to decide if he should try and live close to BOCO. I used to live in Boston myself and the area right around the Fens is still hard to read although it seems much better now. Thanks for advice.

It’s fine. The Mission Hill area has changed for the better too. I know a few who live in JP which is a quick T ride, too. Lots of options. But yeah, the area right around BoCo should be okay. Lots of people around too!

The area is full of students from Berklee, Northeastern, MassArt, NEC etc.

The area around BoCo is safe…BUT that being said Boston is a city. Students need to be street wise and attentive. I would not advice going into the Fens at night alone or even in a small group. I would be careful about walking while looking at your cell phone alone at night. I would still lock your apartment and not leave valuables unattended. When my son was at NEC somebody had their instrument stolen (it happens).

FYI my son lived down Tremont Street in Roxbury in a neighborhood that was definitely sketchy near a bar that was known for being connected to drug dealing. At the same time the area was filled with students like our son who were living there because the rents were affordable. The husband of my dog sitter was a police officer. His own daughter was in school at Northeastern and he was very careful about where she lived. Before our son rented the apartment in Roxbury I asked him if it was ok. My husband was super nervous about our living there. The police officer told me that our son was actually quite safe in the neighborhood. Why? Because he said the leaders in the crime in that area know that if any student gets even a scratch the cops are going to be all over them. So yeah my son lived around the corner from one of the sketchiest bars in the city and across the street from a convenience store where somebody had indeed been shot a few years before he moved in. But I trusted my cop friend that our son was indeed safe.
