Hopefully a native of MN can help me out. I will be starting my PhD studies at Minnesota this fall and am wondering about living off campus. Any good areas that are less than a 20 minute walk to campus and near a bus line? Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for studios and 1-bedroom apartment rents? I'm looking to spend no more than 575-600, as I will be living off of ~19k for the year. Thank you so much!

Off-campus living is pretty easy to come by. I’d suggest craigslist and looking for apartments by the U. Your best bet is anything in Dinkytown, which is literally a block or two away from campus.

If you’re willing to have roommates, Dinkytown Rentals has some good places. I’m living there next year for $590.

My boyfriend lives in a decent one bedroom on campus and is paying $725/month. His rent includes both cable and internet, but not electricity. Everything else is included. That’s pretty standard for the U. You won’t find many one bedrooms under $700.

I’d suggest checking out Riverton Housing, as well. They rent A LOT of apartments in Dinkytown.
