off the wait list

After months of uncertainty, my daughter is going to JMU, off the waitlist. Funny how things work out. It was her first choice all along, but then she had to decide between other schools that accepted her. She fell in love with one of those schools, put down a deposit, found a roommate, everything, but now she is changing gears and going to JMU. Anyone else out there as exhausted as I am by this year's admissions roller coaster ride? Please, someone tell me that she is making the right decision.

Lol. Congratulations for her! I think she made a good decision. She must really love JMU.

Well I chose VT over JMU a year ago and now Im transferring to JMU. If for some reason your daughter doesn’t like it after a year, she can always transfer. People make the most out of their college life when they are in a situation that they feel most comfortable in. Hopefully she likes JMU.

Did you happen to receive an email, phone call or letter regarding an offer from the waitlist? I am curious because my son just received an email from admissions asking him to call them about his waitlist status. It was sent late Friday afternoon and I don’t want to sit through the weekend just wondering. I also don’t want to jump the gun and assume that this is a good thing, but I can can’t help but steer my thoughts in that direction. Please let me know how you found out. Thanks.

Yes, that’s how she found out. The email said they had news about the waitlist. That’s all. Many of her friends found out they were off the waitlist, also.

thanks for your reply. It makes me feel a little better. I know my son will be happy.

I can’t say it with 100% certainty of course, but I’m confident your daughter is making the right decision. If JMU was her first choice all along, that’s where she should go. She might regret it forever if she never went. I’m glad it worked out for her. My son will be going there as well. It was his first choice all along also, but he was deferred at first (early action). He was very dejected and half-heartedly began warming up to his backup choice just in case he didn’t get into JMU at the regular acceptance phase. But he did get in, and he’s had a smile on his face ever since. I continue to hear nothing but good things about the school and the campus environment, so I’m as happy as he is. Good luck to your daughter, and to you!

JMU is my first choice and I will be applying in the fall. My unweighted GPA is going to fall somewhere between a 3.3 and 3.4. My SAT was 1880, and I’m taking it again next week. I will have had 7 AP’s, and 2 Syracuse credit courses by time I graduate. Am I going to get in?
