LOL ur so funni

Europe calls in.

Europe? You mean…

[Europe - The Final Countdown - YouTube](<a href=“Europe - The Final Countdown (Official Video) - YouTube”>Europe - The Final Countdown (Official Video) - YouTube)

Bump.

On that note, anyone applying to some summer programs? If so, which ones?

Ahh, I have no clue! Deadlines are advancing for most programs, but I really want to find a good bio research or creative writing one.

The only thing I have going so far is a volunteer app at a hospital.

What about you? Summer plans?

-Summer@Brown
-VA Latin Governor’s School
-Science internship at George Mason University
-National Institute of Health Internship

So far, I’ll be applying to Summer@Brown, Harvard SSP and the Fermilab TARGET Internship. Not much, but I don’t want to waste my summer. My family is also planning a trip to India to see relatives, which should be fun.

The only down side of going to any of these programs that I probably will miss Lollapalooza. Which means missing Radiohead. Gah.

I wish I could go to summer programs but my parents won’t/can’t pay for them :(. I’m trying to find an internship at some business or I’ll just end up teaching tennis again.

^ I’m applying for scholarships. You could too.

I wouldn’t even know where to begin to look. My family isn’t poor enough to qualify for F.A for these things (college included), but we’re not rich enough to easily pay for these types of things. Are the scholarships merit or need based?

dfree. I know that feel, CC-bro. #Middlemiddleclassproblems

dfree, for Brown, at least, merit and need are both considered. My family isn’t poor at all, but we can’t pay $3000 for a random summer program. Check out the Dean’s Scholarships for Summer@Brown. Also, internships are usually free (some even pay you!).

I’m in the same boat as Studious. I’d never classify my family as poor, but throwing thousands of dollars at pre-college programs isn’t really cherished. Most of these programs are relatively generous on fin aid and scholarships that are, as Studious cites, merit + need based.

Yeah, I’m in the same situation as all of you. I’m fortunate enough to kind of pick and choose the programs I want to do, but my family definitely does not qualify for FA so I can’t do stuff like that every year.

@609 haha right! I sometimes wonder if my dad made 10k less per year I would get FA for college, summer programs, what ever, that would in total exceed 10k lol.

@Studiousmaximus - I’ve heard things about Summer@Brown, one of my friends did that last year, but I think I’d be better off getting an internship at home than going to a summer program with such a general focus. I did a bit of research and came across LEAD business and Economics for Leaders, both have good reputations and don’t break my bank. I’ll have to talk it over with my parents tomorrow to see if they will pay for the programs, EFL is like $400-$700 for 1 week, LEAD is like $1300-1700 for 3-4 weeks. I have no idea how selective they are though, who knows if I will even get in!

In retrospect, this should’ve been posted sooner: http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/file.php?40,file=22180,filename=DontFeedTheTroll.jpg

Hahahahah.

Good luck to you, communicating that to the thousands of sophomores that have aspirations…and friends.

I find it funny and great that we were as defensive as a family.

Exactly studious. There are so many things wrong with that post, it’s hilarious. As much as I would like to get into a full blown argument, I fear we will all get banned. Tuckermax thank you for your lovely contribution to this thread, you are dismissed.

Thank goodness that’s over with. Anay, this thread is a family! Hahaha
