Offered a guranteed sophomore year transfer. Where to go in the mean time?

I’m extremely grateful that U of M has offered me a spot in their class of 2020 as a sophomore year transfer, but I am conflicted on where to attend school during my freshman year where I will not be @ U of M. Right now, it’s between Wayne State University and Michigan State. I was initially dead set on going to MSU for freshman year, but after consulting with some family members who graduated from UofM, I was told that it wouldn’t be a good idea to go to MSU if i’m going to transfer out after 1 year. On top of this, wayne state has offered me the green scholarship so I would be saving about $10,000 compared to a year @ MSU. However, I know that the quality of education will be higher at MSU than it is at Wayne State, and I checked out the Wayne State Campus and wasn’t really fond of it, but I will be commuting anyway. What do you guys think is he better option for my freshman year, Wayne State or MSU? I still have time to withdraw my admission from MSU and register for Wayne FYI

I think the first year classes won’t be that different at either place. Is the commute easier to MSU?

@CheddarcheeseMN I will be dorming at MSU if I go there and commuting to wayne state.

I’d personally take the money, and just make sure to keep my gpa about what they told you too, take the classes that will tranfser into U of M, that means don’t take any freshman seminair class as it will be utter useless. Seriously one year won’t kill you, and just study ad then transfer out. Save the money for the next 3 years.

Can you attend a Michigan community college instead?

Great path too, ^ super cheap and deferred admissions are the best. they really just want you to attend somewhere get above a 3.0gpa i believe and join them next year you know.

@EliteKNight Probably, I’ve never considered that option. I don’t think I would feel comfortable at a community college though.

If saving money is important, then choose Wayne State. If you want to have the freshman dorm experience, then choose MSU. Make sure you know what classes will be the most useful for your intended major.

Wherever you go, make sure the credits will transfer.

I would HIGHLY recommend the CC route.

Speaking personally, out of HS I did not want to go to CC. Like at all… I was accepted to Michigan State, CMU, and a few out of states. Financially, CC was my only option. In my mind, CC was for drop outs and 40-year olds… I begrudgingly went anyway, and I’ve loved it… I’m getting the exact same credits that my four-year university friends are, without getting into a dime of debt. When I transfer to a four year with my associate’s, I’ll be in ZERO debt while they are in $20,000+ of it. The only thing missed out on at my CC is the social life. They try, but it’s never going to be the same as a U of M or MSU.

If social life is something you care a lot about, I would stick with Michigan State, because you will definitely find it there. If social life is something that you can hold off on for a year while saving money, go to Wayne County Community College, Macomb Community College or Oakland Community College (whichever is in your district).

Just my $0.02

I really want to get into Ann Arbor. My GPA isn’t great: 3.9 unweighted and 4.04 weighted.
I will take the ACT in September; I didn’t study and I bombed it-- got a 24.
However, I’ve been studying a lot. If I get a 30+, what are my chances of getting admitted? I will be a senior this fall.
Any tips?

@ChessMaster7 there’s a chances thread for this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/439792-the-official-university-of-michigan-chances-thread.html . I think it’s more likely you’ll get a good answer there.
