So I just found out that I got offered admission as a transfer student to UWT but hears the thing, I only have a week left to confirm and put down the deposit (normally its 2 weeks but I just found my acceptance letter a week after I got actually got it…blame my dad). So basically I have until the 8th.
However, I won’t hear from WWU until April and UW Seattle until June/July. I was going to just make the $100 deposit to secure my spot regardless if I actually decide to go but it says “You may only confirm enrollment with one campus. If you anticipate offers from more than one UW campus please consider whether you want to confirm your enrollment at this time.” I think I want to go to UWT but I don’t want to chance losing either UWT or UW before I know 100%.
What do you guys think? Anyone else in the same situation or been in a similar one?
I agree that you should call the admissions office. It seems perfectly reasonable for your to have a very strong desire to attend one of the UW campuses (particularly if you are in-state), but to have some preference between them.
I spent a few days in Tacoma once. It is quite a nice location, although I didn’t visit the campus.
Hi – Congratulations on your admission to UW-T, I just got accepted as well!
I also applied to the Seattle campus, but am reluctant to wait until summer before making an official decision. I also decided that I like certain aspects of UW-T better; a small campus in the heart of downtown/a thriving art district sold it for me, and there are going to be less students as well. UW Seattle is HUGE, and not really a big fit for me for that reason. I had told myself that I would go to the main Seattle campus no matter what, if I got admitted (due to the prestige, mostly), but I’ve slowly come around and am recognizing that UW-T is definitely more my speed. I’m going to accept admission asap.
Are you 100% sure that you only have a week left to confirm/deny, though? My acceptance letter doesn’t say anything like that, and there was a transfer fair at my school yesterday where I had the opportunity to speak with somebody in admissions at UW-T - I asked this question, word for word. I don’t have the money to accept my admission right now, so I wanted to know if there was a deadline. I was told no, there’s no deadline, just get it done as soon as possible. And for the colleges that I applied to other than the UWs, my acceptance letters give a deadline of May 1st, so the 2-week deadline in the middle of March sounds strange. It’d be worth double checking!
Ultimately, I think you should do what you think is best. Visit both campuses, get a feel for student life there, consider your major (as they’re different at both schools), and decide from there. Also consider your grades and remember than UW Seattle is more competitive while UW Tacoma caters towards transfer students – If you feel good about your admission to Seattle and feel like its a better fit for you, why not wait around for June/July? Yeah, the anticipation would be strong, but you wouldn’t be committing to a college you don’t really want to go to. If you feel you’d ultimately prefer Tacoma, then accept away!
(But also am in agreement with the “call admissions office” suggestions above!)
Quick edit: You could also still take classes at UW Seattle, even if you accepted admission into UW Tacoma, via cross-campus enrollment.
I’m also leaning more towards UWT because of the smaller classes and campus, but still considering the Seattle campus because of the reputation. Especially since I’m planning on majoring in business.
The letter didn’t say anything about two weeks, but the website about what to do after admission says to pay the NSEOF withing 2 weeks of admission.
Thanks for your input and I will call the admissions office.
