wow, i guess today's the big day. Good luck everyone, and don't get too startled and jump 10 feet in the air each time u receive a phone call :).

i suppose if you think that you aren't going to get a phone call, you won't end up disappointed. But if you DO happen to get that special call, YAY! gluck everyone

Haha, I guess I came too late to reassure you, AnudduhMom, but I'd just like to confirm that I am very appreciative of GuitarMan's attempts to keep my hopes not-up. All in good fun, and as my project title is "A partial characterization of Ehrenfeucht-Fraisse games..." the "weirdgermanname game girl" is me. grins Sorry about that!

But we were sort of dominating the discussion anyways, so I'll reply to him in a PM :)

This is why people should have Caller ID.

AnuddahMom, totally understandable and no need to apologize ;) I really didn't make it that clear to anyone except the person who was the recipient of the original comment, so that could easily cause problems :p Intel tends to accept about two astro projects a year for finals so maybe your son and I will meet up in D.C. and we can have a good laugh at you (kidding, of course! :)) there.

Flierdeke, is it just me or should the both of us be in class right about now? (Same goes for you, duality!) By the way, I don't see a reply to the pm yet, young lady :p

I just had my college chemistry midterm. What have you done with your life?

i just cut out 5 slides for my JSHS presentation tomorrow. Bout to go to class...but my second semester senior instincts are telling me not to...

I have to take my DiffEQ final really soon.

Ring

Me: Hello?
Voice in the phone: Hi, may I speak to Frank censored last name?
M: This is Frank.
V: Hi, Frank; I'm pleased to inform you that
M: Oh man! gets really excited, blah blah blah
V: I am pleased to inform you that you have been pre-approved for some credit card.
M: send angry letter to credit card company

lol. Like half an hour after I found out I got into Stanford, my phone rang, and I THOUGHT it was a friend of mine, so I was like, "Hey, so-and-so, I got into Stanford!" Turns out it was an administrator for a competition I was entering. Oops.

haha! Frank, that is so horrible and I do feel for you. Ouch :p

Wrath--JSHS already? Wow. Most regions don't even know who's presenting yet. Good luck!! ;)

I'm also doing JSHS in Wrath's region. We have preliminary presentations tomorrow in Berkeley (I believe several other sub-regions within the N. CA/NV area have their prelims around now), then we'll find out next week who's presenting at JSHS regionals in Reno in March (same weekend as STS finals, ironically).

Ironically? That doesn't sound so much ironic as it does stupid. Don't they know that many of the top Intel placers will also have entered (and most likely will do well in) JSHS? Anyway, good luck to both of you--I hope you both go far with that! JSHS seems like a very nice little competition!

Actually, that's just a hypothetical situation. I didn't actually get that phone call.

...

~Looks around~

I knew that. Really, I did!

haha (10 characters)

Heard yet?

I've got nothing. No one else seems to have gotten anything either so, I'd imagine phone calls haven't started yet.

i read a post from last year's Intel thread, and someone got the phone call around 5:00 PST

That sounds consistent with what I've heard -- correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Kelley Harris got the call at 6:something (PST).

Damn, that's pretty late for ppl out east.
