Official 2006 Intel Science Talent Search STS thread!

All right guys/girls, how many of you entered a project?

I submitted one in chemistry. Mailed it off today.

I'd already done the Westinghouse, so all I had to do was the essays and get teacher recommendations.

I understand many of you won't want to discuss details till after the deadline.

Who all entered? In what category? From where?

Good luck.

haha STS stands for Science Talent Search, but anyway

I'm submitting one in biochemistry, and like bgrill, it's gonna be the same as my Siemens project. The essays are killer tho...Hoping to get Semifinalist at least ($1000 baby!), but Finalist would be a godsend

Don't worry, I know what STS stands for...

STS is this early? SHeez...ISEF is like in May or something

well then why did u write Science Talent Search and then STS...doesn't make sense.

God how are you guys done already. Im still majorly finishing to write my paper up, still dont have my analysis or literature search or conclusion done!

Anyways Im submitting a psychology paper dealing with music and cognition/memory. I really dont care if I dont make semifinalist, just finishing the paper will make me so incredibly proud.

Good luck to everyone.

I'm finishing up my physics paper. I have to produce/add a couple figures and write two more essays. And get recommendations. Ugh.

I must say though, Intel has gotten me out of so many classes over the past 2 years it is unreal.

I'll enter a microbiology project. I'm hoping for the 100,000$ scholarship. That would be tasty. lol

"...doesn't make sense."

I intended for it to increase search engine responses: to retrieve "STS" as well as "Intel Science Search" queries. My argument was rendered moot, however, when I discovered that the search engine only accepts words of 3+ letters. You win for now. As far as the STS... haha

Ugh I hate intel. I spent 3 hours working on 2 pages. :(

Oh man I am STILL writing my paper. At least all the requisite forms/recs/etc were handed out a week ago. I plan on Fed-Exing overnight on like Friday.
Anyone else who is slacking holla.
I really don't think I have a chance at National/scholarship/finalist, but I might have an ok chance at Semis. Do they take regional issues into account? But who knows? I could be completely overestimating my work (in category bioinformatics). We'll see, I guess, for now I need to actually submit it.

Im slacking, im gonna end up submitting it overnight the night before it is due.

Questions to those who entered, from someone who is hoping to next year: how long did you guys work on your projects?

Ive been working on my project since 10th grade

I spent 1 summer.

Hey guys, I am submitting an Intel project too. I have a question, though -- maybe someone here might know the answer. The instructions say, "Photographs should be printed on full sheets of photo paper, rather than mounted on text pages." My question is: are Western Blot results considered photographs? As of now, I just scanned my results into the computer and printed them in the body of the paper -- do you guys think these pics should go on a separate sheet of photo paper? Thanks!

Hey guys, on Part II Essay Questions 1-5, it says to please address all the following topics and asnwer each of the five questions in 300 words or fewer. Does that mean each question is 300 words, 1500 words total? And does that mean to have each responce to each question under an independent header like: 1. answer to one, 2. answer to two etc; or just one big essay?

5 seperate essays, the title of each should be your header. Initiative, scientific attitude, etc.

o ok

Grrr... Adobe reader wont let me save the entries in the pdf file. Anyone know if the full Adobe Acrobat will let you save?
