Official 2006 Intel Science Talent Search STS thread!

yeah i know of only 2 from long island. luck has a lot to do with getting chosen...that and the reviewers' preferences. being a semi isn't bad at all =)

Bobbob--No one from Schreiber's made it yet??? Very strange. I'm pulling for you guys! Ohmywow, where is the other LIer from? I'm from Bellmore JFK.

Sran--CONGRATULATIONS :) Very very nice. So are we the only two CCers to get the good news thus far? What was your project on?

By the way, Viscardi did make it, if this shocks anyone ;)

we actually i just heard about one.

That doesn't surprise me about Viscardi. Do you know which other CA kids got called?

Nice!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats to whoever made it, bobbob. So I guess your school's dry streak is over? Who is it?

Avalon--Viscardi I always felt 100% confident about. Top 10.

Yes, I think Top 5 is more like it.

Preemptive happy dancing for everyone, regardless of status because we're all awesome; all judging at this level is subjective.

Another astro (planetary science) here...

Does anyone know whether our schools get $5000 or $1000 (if finalist status)?

Best to all.

i dont believe intel maches scholarships for schools past semifinalists

Sran--PM me a description of your project, please? Outta curiosity.

I don't think our schools get any extra but, don't quote me on that.

By the way, I already know of (including mine) 3 projects that count as astro. That's more than most years. Looks like this could be a good year for astro (which I find very surprising as there were so few high schoolers at AAS, relative to other years).

My kid's project was space sciences too, so I guess she is out, if there are 3 already. Congrats and good luck again, you guys.

It looks like Intel poked me in my mind's eye. Oh well. I'm probably not going to major in science anyway, so the scholarship conditional to science major wouldn't have mattered much. Congrats to those who made it.

im fairly sure its math/science/social studies major...since the winner of intel in 2000 didnt major in science

The scholarship is conditional to a science major?? That shocks me, that doesn't seem right. Similarly shocking is your not making it, Tupac. I really thought you were in. But hey, you're still in Harvard ;)

I'm leaning toward a business major at wharton of upenn though.

Congratulations to you especially guitar. Maybe I'll see you guys at isef.

****, didn't make it. o well, gotta still prepare for JSHS 2morrow. Congrats to all who made it.

Sounds like a plan, Wrath. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow, and hopefully (definitely?) at JSHS regionals in Reno in March.

Anyone know if Jonathan Steinman from Palo Alto got chosen?

man...i cant compete in JSHS...stupid academic decathlon

Bobbob--Skip it! JSHS is more important ;) We find out next week, no?

cant...its states...bastards.

ill see you at lisef though...and hopefully isef too.

Yeah. I'm feeling much better about my LISEF chances then I did before, after I found out that, unlike last year, Space Sciences will be a totally separate category at LISEF :)
