Official 2006 Intel Science Talent Search STS thread!

I will probably make a new blog specifically for STS, just for the sake of convenience. Gotta love Blogspot and their multiple blogs ;)

Bah bah bah.

Guess what kind of processor I'm not going to buy.

Transmeta Crusoe?

AMD just wiped the floor with Intel in a dual core review by CNet...

Athlon 64 X2 vs. Core Duo? That's understandable, Core Duo is really meant as a laptop/low performance desktop chip. Just wait until Conroe comes out...

no not the new duo...X2 v. Pentium D and the Extreme Edition

Ahhhhh!! ~notices huge, glaring error in STS bio and goes to e-mail people to have them correct it~

The Pentium D is indeed very bad. Core Duo is better by leaps and bounds, and what's coming up the pipeline is even better. Intel is trying to win back the technical crown...

Likely not as bad as the press release for semi's -- it said my name was Jennifer (it's really Julie) and that I studied allergenic (not allogeneic) antibodies.

OK, that's bad! :p Did they fix it?

They got the name stuff fixed (as far as I can tell from Google, there's only one place that has me listed as Jennifer), but the allergenic stuff is still popping up here and there. So what did they do with your bio?

ooh, i'm listed as being seventeen. feels old I'm impressed with how well they summarized my project, though.

Oooh, that's weird, why do they do that? I'm still 16, apparently :p When's your bday?

Avalon, they combined the descriptions of two completely separate projects I did (including one I didn't submit to STS) and put me as submitting to the wrong journal.

Hahaha - same for me. But the worst thing is, they talk about the project I talked about in my STS report, then the next sentence is talking about a completely different research project I did. The third sentence is sort of like a conclusion of my general STS project results. But it sounds like all that is put together as one single (very confusing) project. I'm glad I'm not alone in that. Hehehe.

lol well, e-mail them ;) Tami Casey (the contact info on the press release) said she'll forward my changes to the right people and have them handle it, so.........lol

will do - after I get some sleep. I can't write anything coherent at the moment. Thanks for the info!

Has anyone gotten more info from Intel regarding preparing a talk, the trip, etc.?

Kim, don't you listen at all? Fedex tomorrow ;)

The media blitz has begun already! Just saw my news story on local news channel and made NY Post and Newsday. Goal is to make NYT Science Times :p

Listen? Wait, was this discussed here? The guy who came to my school didn't say anything about further information... he just gave a speech about the competition. Okay, Fedex tomorrow, cool :)

and wow, nifty press. up here no one's heard of the competition.

Ooooh, OK, they told me about it on the phone call. The Siemens call, as you know (Katie called you, right?) was much more informative :p Intel didn't really say anything new.
