Official 2006 Intel Science Talent Search STS thread!

no, im talking about my high school, not my program.

ward melville on LI is the only place that beat us.

YAY! i made it! they actually surprised me with hella press, my parents, and people from Intel coming in and giving me a hugeass check, just like they did with Amber. Pretty exciting. When do finalists get the call?

i think finalists will get a call a few days before the formal announcement

i was just kidding around with the rsi pride. congratulations to everyone! (and y'all's schools!)

oh, and math here ^.^

Davis--You should be sorry ;) Anyone who entered a mediocre half-done paper into Siemens and didn't make top 3 at Nationals is a failure :p

By the way--that is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had four and we were happy with that (we had 5 last year but this year 4 fewer kids entered). What school are you at, if I may ask? Schreiber?

My project was in astrophysics. Not sure what Intel calls it.

yea we are insanely strong in science research stuff.

Congrats to everyone.

I know right? half mediocre with a number of statistical errors should have been AT LEAST 3rd...damn im just a failure.

haha.

Awesome ;) I have a friend at Schreiber. So, I'm happy for you guys. I'm at BJFK--once again you beat us :p

cool.

Yea damn Ward Melville being on the Stony Brook campus and submitting around 100 papers every year.

we're so better than them!

Wow, your schools're amazing. We have one semifinalist here, and had one finalist in Siemens... when I told my science teacher I was entering, I got to see the award from the last kid here who did well. It was from the 60s.

haha 100?? Are you serious? That.....is damn crazy.

Haha we're the little guys who average a fairly strong 4-5 semis every year since two years ago when we had our first people submit. So we're gonna catch up to you guys ;) I believe last year only you beat us in Nassau County and this year it was you and Lawrence (surprisingly enough).

flierdeke--Who made Siemens for you guys?

I'm homeschooled, and "they" called us about 45 minutes before the anouncement went up online...so I guess they'll be showing up at my house any minute!

Yea what was up with Lawrence this year?

Schreiber is insane...we average around 7-10 every year...and in 2000 when we won, we had 12 semis i believe.

out of around 30 entries every year.

lol what do you mean when "you won"? You mean you had somebody take 1st? Or did P Dubbs sweep the top 10? :p

Davis--No one came to your school, right? I don't think any HSs on Long Island have that for semis, for some reason....

from intel? no.

long island isnt montana...long island had 81 semis total so intel couldnt send anyone.

you won = viviana risca from schreiber won in 2000.

Oooh, awesome. We've only had one finalist, lol, in 2002. The sophomores that year were the first to enter our official research program, and since their years it's been 4, 5, 4. Which is actually pretty good, lol.

yea we started our program back in like 1987 so we've gotten fairly good at doing research as a class and stuff.

yea on long island, 4 or more is great.

How many finalists do you tend to have per year, out of curiosity?

we tend to get 1 every 2-3 years...we've had up to 3 in a year however.
