Jimi7---
Yes, you can definitely apply. As long as you have U.S. citizen, as I understand, you can apply to Questbridge to 8 college choices. However, if you do not hold a U.S. passport, then your choice is limited to Yale and Princeton...like me!

weilly,
hey I'm an international student just like you! don't lose hope-I'm also limited to Yale and Princeton. They are both very tough to get in but If you're matched at either of these school, you could potentially get a full four year scholarship! For me, Yale is one of my top choices so QB is really good for me. I think that though even if Yale(or princeton) wasn't your top choice, you should still do it since you can use your Questbridge essays for those other colleges you're planning to apply during regular decision. I'm thinking that it will be a big time-saver in december...

Anyways, does anyone know whether Questbridge is really strict about the word limits? My biographical essay is a little over 800 words(actually around 900), and I really don't see a way to limit it... Is this okay?? Thanks again!!!!

does anyone know if National Merit semifinalist is a good thing to have on the questbridge ap or is it too common?

Receiving the national merit semifinalist is not a common designation. But colleges will most likely ask themselves why you didn't become a finalist. I though almost all the semifinalist got that as long as they have ec's and a good GPA.

There are only three weeks left and I don't have an essay and the teachers that'd be writing me recommendations would probably need at least 4 weeks.
Well, QB does recommend that you give the recommendations to your teachers 3 weeks in advance. You’d have enough time, I think, to write essays as well.

Well, anyways, does using Questbridge allow you to also apply through common app and to different colleges than the ones from the college match? I mean, it's not binding until you be a finalist, right?
It’s not binding unless you are matched. Even then, you may get matched to a non-binding college (Stanford, Yale, Notre Dame, Princeton, MIT). If you are not matched, you can apply to as many colleges (partner college or not) as you want.

If you do become a finalist and you decide to go through the Match round, you may not apply to other schools early.

A few partner colleges require you to submit the Common App too.

The scholarship awarded to matched finalists is a 4 year full-tuition scholarship.
It’s actually a full scholarship—meaning room, board, etc. are paid as well, not just tuition.
Does anyone know if the 4 years must be consecutive?
The terms of the scholarship are set by the individual colleges, so you’d have to check the ones you want to apply to. I don’t think they’d limit QB scholars—in other words, they’d probably let you take a gap year even if you are on scholarship.

Remember, also, that many of the partner colleges, while offering full scholarships, require that you re-apply for financial aid each year, so it’s not as though the full, four-year scholarship is one big block.

hello,do this questbridge open to international students.Btw,I'm American but not living in the States..
QB is open to international students, but the only two schools that consider internationals for the Match round are Yale and Princeton.

By “American but not living in the States,” do you mean that you are a US citizen or have permanent residency status? If so, then you are considered a domestic applicant (even though you may not be living in the US at the moment), and thus you would be free to apply to any of QB’s partner schools for the Match round, not just Yale and Princeton.

Can anyone tell me QB app is more preferable in any of the colleges?
Not all will accept the QB app from internationals. Amherst is not one of those that consider internationals for the Match round, and thus it makes sense that it does not accept the QB app for the RD round from internationals. (They do, of course, accept the QB app, with supplement, for the RD round from domestic applicants.)

If you are applying to other QB schools, whether in the Match round (Yale and Princeton) or in the RD round, then the QB application will be useful. See the regular decision table:
If I remember correctly, it won’t let you submit the full essay; it will cut off at the limit.

I know it’s hard to cut words, but really, that’s all you can do. I cut my essay from 700 words to 500 words and it was okay. It was hard, of course, since I had to be very choosy with what I wanted to say, but I ended up cutting nearly a third of the essay. In your case, you’re only cutting about a tenth of the essay, so I think you can do it.

does anyone know if National Merit semifinalist is a good thing to have on the questbridge ap or is it too common?
Of course it’s a good thing! NM semifinalist would never be a “bad” thing, even if you’re applying to Harvard. On top of that, NM semifinalists who are low-income students are less common, so it’s a strong award to put down.

Carlosd3co, when students apply, they don’t know whether they are a finalist or not. They have to compete further for it, so they put semifinalist instead. Thus, colleges won’t wonder why you didn’t become a finalist yet.

Kyledavid80,

I'm in the process of asking for recommendations, and I believe you posted somewhere a general rubric of helpful background information to give to your teachers; can you please post this again? I remember it was very helpful.

Thank you!

Also, is the Secondary School Report something you get from QuestBridge or from your school? Is it your transcript? Do all schools have a Secondary School Report? I ask because coming from a low-income, urban school not even counselors are very knowledgeable in college admissions.

Lastly, for the recommender's address, does it have to be their home address or can it be the school's?

The Secondary School Report is separate from the transcript. Your counselor will fill this out online. See the application instructions (under "Supplements & Your 'My Locker' Page"):

To get more responses on this:

If you're planning to go through the Match program, what will be the first-choice school that you rank? What other schools do you think you'll rank? How might you rank them?

I have a question about questbridge. What is you get a better financial aid package from a school that is not a questbridge school are you still bound to taking the questbridge match???

I meant to say "What if" you get a better offer elsewhere. Thanks

For the short answers on the QB application asking your favorite books and how you deal wiht situations, did you answer in complete sentences or list things? How did you approach and carry out those questiosn? Should they be answered in harmony with the "overarching theme" if possible?

Thanks for all the help!

P.S. Thanks to your help, I have successfully asked and gotten my teachers to write my reccomendation! Yay!

You can answer them in short lists. Just be honest in your answers; as long as it's appropriate, go ahead and put it. They're used more to contextualize than to judge. They don't need to follow the application theme, but if some can, go for it. :)

Thanks a lot! :)

Thanks, kyledavid!

hey can i list things for activities that i havent done yet. like im starting a club at my school and im also gonna be playing some sports but they havent started yet. am i allowed to list them?

I'd say you are, but you might want to put them in the additional info instead. That's what I did. If you have room in the EC section, it wouldn't hurt to put it there, but you need to know how many hours/week and such you would actually do, which you won't know until it starts.

Hmm, I have a question.

If you do QB but don't get matched, can you still do ED to one of the schools?
And if you do, I'm guessing you should change your essays, right?

You can do ED to some schools. I don't think you'd need to change your essays.

This will tell you which allow ED for non-matched finalists:

QuestBridge National College Match - Regular Decision Table

if I don't get accepted as a finalist, may i still use my QB App for regular decision?

what happens if you do become a finalist, but not matched? do you have to re-do your entire common app and/or pay the fee again? I'm confused as to how that works.

hey guys i am using questbridge to apply to some colleges but then does that mean i dont need to apply as a "normal" student because i am a low-income student?
