EVERYTHING has to be submitted by the deadline Tuesday night. If you know your recommender faxed it, contact QuestBridge to see why it does not show as submitted.

I had a teacher fax one in last night and it showed up in my email a few hours later.

2blue,
Blah I'll just do QB then without the match program. I doubt I'll even get finalist status. And if I do, I'll just explain to Penn that I wanted to do ED to them instead of stupid RD with them under QB.

Cool, thanks guys. Na, i think the problem is my physics teacher is just a lazy bum. She said she would do the thing online about 3 weeks ago, and still hasn't gotten it done.

I emailed her with a friendly reminder, hope she gets her head out of her ass soon or I'm screwed.

cc3c, the matching process is a holistic process on the part of the schools so more than just numbers matter. Sure, there are some kids with high stats who get matched, but last year there were also high stats kids who were passed over and lower stats kids who received the match. I remember reading posts here from kids in all those categories.

Zester, the advantage to doing the College Match is that you cannot be rejected. So, even if you don't get matched to Penn initially you are assured a chance in Regular Decision. Plus you get shots at the non-binding schools in which you are interested.

That said, I took a look at the Penn QB page. (Partner School: University of Pennsylvania - 2008 College Match Scholarship Package) It does say, "Because family situations can often change significantly from year to year, Penn normally redetermines a student's expected family contribution each year. For that reason, QuestBridge students will be considered for a four-year Match Scholarship only in those cases where the expected parent contribution is $0, and it appears unlikely that it will change over time." I have no idea what your parental expected contribution would be, but if it is more than $0 you evidently would not be matched to Penn.

Here's a link to the Penn FA site where data is posted regarding the financial aid packages received by families at various income levels last year: A Look at the Facts, Comparing Penn's Cost PLEASE BE AWARE the amounts listed are for the "average total awards." Don't assume that if the "average total award" is less than the "cost of attendence" that the expected parental contribution was greater than zero! It is possible for the student to be expected to make a contribution through a term-time job and summer earnings while the parents may have a $0 expected contribution. If you aren't sure what kind of parental contribution (if any) your parents would be required to make, I'd suggest contacting the Penn FA office to see if they could give you some sort of idea.

Whatever you decide regarding the match process, I do think QB is still worthwhile even if you just use regular decision.

Well, in that case, what perks do you get for being a finalist but not ranking any schools?
Do they just waive you their fees, plus realize that you're a high achieving poor kid?

Ramin-
HAHAHA I'm in the same boat with you. My teacher is being really slow, I also emailed him. The dead line is nearing and the recommendation is all I need.... HURRY UP!!! I'm extremely nervous....

That's right, Zester. And those are both pretty important perks. The fees add up, and anything you can do to save money on them is a good thing. Even more importantly, being named a QB finalist will let admissions officers know you are a low-income student. Many schools want to increase the number of low-income students so it gives you an edge in Regular Decision admissions.

fastdry, I'd go ahead and fax in that score report with a note you will follow up with the official report as soon as it is available. Also, if you've taken the ACT previously or any other tests such as the SAT or SAT subject tests I'd send those as well.

Ramin and CC3C - I was in the same boat this past week. I was freaking out that my guidance counselor and one teacher did not have theirs done. Finally on Thursday my guidance counselor sent hers in. On Friday I hunted down the last teacher since she had not even answered my emails (I gave her the paperwork in August and she happily agreed to do it). While I was there my guidance counselor showed up and nudged her too. She promised to get it in Friday evening/Saturday and I was so stressed every time I saw she had not. At 7:30 last night she faxed it in. Thank goodness QuestBridge is on the ball and it showed up shortly afterward it had been received. I slept well last night and will even better tonight now that it is ALL in!!!!

Good luck with those recs - I definitely feel your pain!

Guys, please before asking questions, read back a few pages. @xlostinwords, as long as your teachers submits it before tuesday, it will be fine, even if it takes 48 hrs to verify

Ahhh when I try to access my Locker I'm told that I am unable to connect to database server...the server is down?! Hope they get it fixed soon! Is anyone else getting this?

I want to apply to Questbridge, but I have a problem. Although I am a URM, and moved here from another country, my parent's income is about $74,000 which is well above what most Questbridge applicants have. The thing is though, that my parents work two jobs, 1 of which is as teachers at a community college so its not the same every year, it depends on how many classes they get to teach. And the other thing is that my mom works at a federal funded program that will no longer run after summer 2009 due to no more money, so she will be out of a job next year. Could I write that in the extra info part and are they valid reasons that will still keep me on the run for the match process?

Have a question: I accidentally checked a box, saying that I work during the school year, but I don't. I can't uncheck it. I've tried clicking it and the other options of working during the weekend, after school, and both a million times. How can I uncheck it?

hmm thats weird nickel...maybe you should refresh if that doesnt work mention it somewhere on additional info or something?

question
one part of the app says to write your common app id number. i havent even started it yet so what do i do? leave it blank or start it and then find the code???

fastdry: I would start it and follow the instructions (about printing the app) to find the code. It doesn't take very long and you don't need to fill out the whole common app to get the number.

By the way, what happens if you have all required fields completed on the last day, but don't press the "Submit Application" button. Does QB automatically accept whatever you have, or is the entire app down the drain?
