Will our college rankings have any effect on whether or not we are chosen as finalists?

Hey guys. I'm completely new to CollegeConfidential; I'd heard of it before, but a bunch of people were talking about it in the QuestBridge Facebook group (join it if you haven't already! Login | Facebook) so I figured I'd join.

Here's something I've been wondering about. If we become finalists, but aren't matched, there are lots of different requirements for things to send in to each school when we forward for regular decision. For Amherst, Haverford, Vassar, and Wesleyan (among others, I'm sure), we're required to send in their supplement, but not the CommonApp. How does one go about that? Can it be done on www.commonapp.org?

AmbitiousMind, they don't see what number you ranked them as. They simply see that you chose them.

@brittany2009 - supplements can be filled out online on the Common App website unless they are only "offline" (that is, you can only find them on the college's website). The easiest way to check it is to go to the website of the college ad look around for application requirements

Hi, I need some answers! Will Questbridge forward my app for free even if I'm not selected as a finalist? I know some of you said they will, but from reading the website I kinda get the impression that if you're not a finalist you're on your own.

I was actually referring to Questbridge: While reviewing our applications to be considered for the finalist round, will they take into consideration the colleges we ranked?

For example: While reviewing applicant A's application, will they say "oh, her unweighted GPA is a 3.6 and she is not even in the top 10% of her class...she ranked x-University and x-University as her top choices. They probably won't even accept her, so why should we even bother selecting her as a finalist?"

My reasoning: If the colleges you selected are unlikely to accept you, will QB not select you as a finalist? Or does QB not take into consideration the colleges you ranked?

AmbitiousMind07, no, they won't take into account the colleges you rank.

oh... hmmm i'm not exactly sure about that, but I don't think so? After all, they don't lose anything by granting another finalist.

when I got to myLocker, my school rankings show up as completed, is that what it should say after you send them, or should it say submitted? because I completed them at the same time as when I sent the application but dont remember if I sent them, or if I i just saved them. Please Help!

Maria, completed means it's been done. You're fine. :)

My teacher has submitted his letter of recommendation on September 30, and faxed it at least 4-5 times to QB since then, but my locker page still says that the recommendation has not been received. I e-mailed and called QB on Friday but no response so far. (I also called/e-mailed again just now...) What should I do? o.O

infinitemishaps: We went through the exact same thing. Finally, a very nice person at QB called us back on the phone and confirmed that she had in her hand all three copies of the teacher rec that had been faxed. Despite this, My Locker still claims it has not yet been started.

I would keep e-mailing and/or calling them until someone goes out on a limb and states authoritatively that they received the rec. Then you'll sleep better.

Thank you so much! I'm totally terrified that I may be disqualified because the rec is "Not Started." Should I ask my teacher to fax it in one more time? And... how long did QB take to get back to you on the phone?

i want desperately to be a finalist...

have you guys sent in official score reports to the schools you ranked? or have you only faxed them to qb?

Why isn't anything showing up for me yet!?

Nothing's showing up for me either...but I guess that's because they gave me an extension...

Well, we're supposed to be seeing our locker by noon PST October 6th.
It's been 5:30 hours past that!

Sorry, I don't know what's wrong. But my email did indeed say that our applications would be available for editing after 12 pst.
I guess we'll need to contact QB again.

Sorry.

@laststopforme: Oh, no, I understand how to access a supplement. :) My question is how to actually submit them without submitting the CommonApp to the schools that don't require it. Is it possible to do electronically (specifically on the CommonApp website)?

What did you guys put on the additional information? I know that I put down the rest of my resume that follows the 5 max extra curriculars, in addition with my thought about going to a good college.

Did mess up on that part? Because I feel like there's a general vibe that trying too hard on an application is NOT a good thing.
