Official 2008 Questbridge National College Match Discussion and Help

I wrote like 3 lines about an additional award I won...
I hope that's fine and I wasn't expected to write a full blown 300 word essay!!! I didn't put anything other than that though...

Yeah, what did everyone put on the extra essay portion??

I hoping that some former finalist might be able to shed some light on their experiences with Questbridge for all of us that are sitting and waiting.

Did anyone become a finalist who was just a regular low income (under$50,000) person who did not necessarily "have a story" to tell? I live in a middle class town and am clearly at a disadvantage in all things due to finances. There is no way that I can attend college without some big, big help. Our family is struggling to get by. My only obstacle is that we dont' have much money. The cost of living has gone up tremendously where we live and if we were to try to move into our home now we could not afford it. Did anyone out there who fits this profile become a finalist last year? The waiting is killing me. Somehow I'm starting to think that I wasted my time applying and being low income isn't going to make a difference!! I did not apply to the Match Round because I feel that there is no way I'd get chosen, but hoping that I become a finalist so I can apply Regular Decision and have access to free applications.

Chriscross, my D was a finalist and a match recipient last year. She had no "other story" to tell, just low income. I don't think they are looking for a sob story, but instead they give you the opportunity to explain anything that might shed light on any factors that might have had an affect on your life.

Chris, I feel almost the same as you. I'll probably not apply early through the Match because it's almost impossible to get chosen. I will apply RD if I don't get accepted to my EA school.

Thanks for the responses. I guess we'll just have to sit and wait! Who knows we may get lucky!

I am sooo having trouble with the faxes... did they not get anyone else's faxes yet?

Is it worth goin through match at all if its like so hard to get matched? Should I do ED instead?

i mean after being granted finalist status..

Yeah, Questbridge is frustrating. It stills says I need to complete the school section, but I've clicked through every time just fine.

Anyone, willing to read my essays and give me advice for either obvious corrections or if they're to banal. I'm not used to trying to tell a story through the essay.

Is it possible that questbridge has already started reading the submitted applications of even the people who got an extension? To be more clear, if you sumbitted your application by the 5th but got an extension on that night and they gave it to you, would they have started reading what you submitted already or are they going to wait until you finally submit what you wanted?

pgtori:

isnt it a little late to edit papers?

hey has anyone here taken the september act and submitted the scores? im a little worried b/c originally when i got the online scores i just printed them out and faxed them but they didnt include my writing score.

now that my REAL score report is in do i need to fax a copy of that to qb?

schools like Wellesley and Northwestern do not say we need to complete their supplements (i.e. "Why" essays, etc) or the common app, so does this mean they only look at the questbridge application?

Sorry if this has been asked before: Can we use the same essay in the Common Application that we used in the QB Application? Thanks!

ambitiousmind:

yea you can.

Fastdry- your guidance counselor needs to fax your official score report with a cover sheet.

if a finalist, can i withdraw my application, then apply early to cornell, but if i get rejected, apply RD with my QB application?

OR---

If not a finalist, can i apply early to other schools?

ambitiousmind, isn't that risky? i thought colleges are looking at both QB and the common app. wouldn't be expecting different essays?

wouldn't they be expecting**
