Official 2010 Box Question Gallery

I must say I envy the artistic ability of many of you in this thread!

Here's mine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v169/ldura9t/SublimityImposed.jpg

It's a screenshot of a level I made for UT2004, with a wireframe view of it superimposed. I told them how to get to other screens from levels, if they were interested:

It's supposed to illustrate a mathematical proof where you're trying to show that a few given conditions imply a result. I was partly inspired by a certain picture from Godel, Escher, Bach illustrating the world of provable truths, unprovable truths, and falsehoods that come out of a set of axioms.
I enjoyed looking at all of your boxes! Making this gallery was a great idea. :)
Edit:I just realized that you have to log into AoPS to see images hosted there. Sorry.

fortytwo, that's amazing. Did you work from a photo, or...

Thanks, flierdeke!
Yes, I worked from a photo... :)

Btw...me?, that's really cool! How long did it take you to create that level?

Both of those levels took 4-5 months to make. :)

I think you are all amazing and unique! good luck

Oh dear God that's impressive, me? :)

Thanks GuitarMan. :)

Wow, now I feel inadequate. So many creative pictures!

I simply used this image, along with a short description of what it was (fusion reaction zone from my fusor):

http://www.brian-mcdermott.com/prettystarcropped.jpg

Hah, I feel a little inadequate, but I sent in a physical object, a golf ball and tee and explained how golf=engineering. It's certainly not as elaborate as what some of you guys have done, but I like it.

Unusual comparisons, nice! My "Why Caltech?" essay was about sex and astronomy :)

how'd you pull off that one?

weren't we not supposed to send in 3d objects? there sure are a lot of things I would've sent in if it weren't confined to the paper...

Woah, yeah, what did you do? "I want to go to Caltech for the sex and the astronomy!" ?

yea mine was jus an illustration of a machine i built that grabbed tennis balls faster than u blinked :P lotta ppl are really creative!

Zoogies--I drew the connections between the two and used it to highlight my passion for astronomy and how Caltech fit into that :)

Well, mine wasn't as creative as some of your guy's, just something I learned about in pre-calc.

http://shw.fotopages.com/8898751/fractal.html?noresize

the caption is at the bottom of the page.

man do I feel inferior now. I put about 10 pictures in a collage and put quotes with them. I did have some good quotes. My favorite is "physics is like sex it has some practical purposes but that isn't why we do it" Richard Feynman. I hope that quote doesn't like **** someone off that looks at my app. I wish I was creative like you guys on this board.

i'm not cool enough to have it posted but my box was as follows:

i wrote down the summation from 1 to n of i = ni then x= y^2 which is a c then <0,0,1> the k vector. Then i did r = 1-sin(theta) for a heart. then i did 4.184 J for Cal(orie). Tech was t taylor series expansion of e, which is long as hell to write out, where X was the speed of light (c) times planck's constant (h) so it was te^ch. So it spelled Nick <3 CalTech. The trick was they were supposed to solve it. It was hot.

I also put a little math equation that is me so i had a soccer ball, plus lotsa random math stuff, plus my computer (which is yellow and black and blue glowy lights everywhere [it's insanely hot |i made it cuz buyign computers from computer makers is lame|]) equals a picture of me in a skirt, which i should preface by saying i'm not a cross dresser, its' just one hell of a funny picture.
