****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

good luck guys! as soon as anyone heards sth about the yield or he gets in from the wl please post!

So, officially deliberations begin tomorrow & the deadline to submit updates is also tomorrow. Most likely top choice candidates will hear tomorrow, but the bulk of decisions will go out May 15-25. after that there is an extended waitlist which means your going all the way to July 1st. So there could be decisions tomorrow but dont expect anything & goodluck to everyone  hope this info helps.

Oh, & they give you about 10 days to decide & then if you decline you get a rejected/denied letter. & sometimes your guidance counselor is called. & i think the order is that they call your house/cell & leave a message and then email to set up a time to call in case you dont pick up. & if you accept you get a fed ex package in the mail with all the info & financial aid stuff.

[The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Yield Holds Steady For 2013](http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=528168)

So, it’s 85 or more… looks like it’s not gonna be as happy a year for waitlistees as last year :/

last year they initially told its going to be 150-175 and then they took 225 of the WL!
Plus with a yield of 76% more likely 100+ ppl will be pffered place in the Class of 2013! Because 2046*0.76= 1555 and 1665-1555= 110!
And as the article mentions if more ppl postpone matriculation for a year there will be more places available!!

1991 - They also stated that they were still waiting on some accepted students’ responses. Until those people make their final decision (or Harvard makes it for them), those slots are not yet determined to be full or available.

Just a note, per an earlier post’s suggestion, I went through the Harvard waitlist 2012 thread. The first CCer to post that they were taken off the waitlist was 5/12/08 though there were posts about a few hearsay non-CCers getting calls a little earlier. None were as early as the 8th. Hope this information helps to keep you all calm.

Good luck.

May 12, 2008 was a Monday. It can be reasonably inferred that they met on Friday and throughout the weekend in order to start making offers on Monday.

Thus, it seams reasonable to inferr that this Monday, May 11, people may start receiving phone calls.

i think that since the Fitz ssaid that some students will be hearing as early as may 8th that there will be some offers, but the bulk will go out around may 11 & may 12 & through the 25th. goodluck everyone & thanks for whoever posted the crimson article on page 15

oh and by the way, my guidance counselor called today to see what was up. she barely got anything out of them, except that when offered admission, you’ll have 7 days to decide.

My Son just got the call and was offered admissions. He has a week to respond.

thats great for u and ur son congrats!! jW do they call ur home or his cell phone?

congratulations indeed! my heart jumps every time the phone rings…

DAMNNNNNN i forgot it was may…OMG they couldve call me and i wouldnt have known, but they didnt…yet

Congratulations to you, OperaDad, and of course to your son. This morning I told my son to keep his cell charged, and deleted all the old messages on our home machine, just in case…

Harvard called the home number. I don’t think we put his cell number on the application.

Wow, congrats!!!

Congratulations! Operadad, did your son send in anything to Harvard? Updates, additional letters of recommendation, etc.?

Applying to Harvard was a long shot. Son wants to be a Classical Voice singer, and New England Conservatory has a 5 year program with Harvard. So I suggested he apply. In February, we went to NEC to audition, but didn’t have time to stop by Harvard.

When Son was informed he was on the Waitlist, I looked for things he could do. I had Son contact the Choir Director and arrange a meeting during Son’s Spring Break. During the meeting, the Choir Director said he didn’t know how kids found out that he is willing to listen to them, and if they are good, write a recommendation (we didn’t know, we just contacted him). Well, he liked my son, and wrote the admissions office a recommendation. He asked his Piano teacher write a recommendation (she is a Harvard alum, she has heard him sing and he is great at piano too). We also sent in a copy of a recommendation that the local Opera Chorus Master wrote for Son’s application to Eastman. Finally, we stopped by the Admissions Office to say “Hi”. Let’s just say that Son did not overwhelm the Admissions Officer with his personality (typical reserved self).

It was stuff we should have done in January, but didn’t think that little bit would make a difference. However, once he was on the waitlist, my guess is that they thought he is “wicked good” [from another thread] at singing, and needed the additional confirmation from their Choir Director.

Congratulations OperaDad to you and your son. I suppose your son was one of the first waitlistees being picked off it.

Well I hope I’ll get the same fantastic news! :D

congratulations operadad! my son is finishing up his freshman year at Harvard and he loves it!
