****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

so does that mean if your regional rep doesn’t call you up for another interview, you’re probably not going to be taken off the list?

i’d have to go out on a limb and say that i doubt that

Uh no. I had my second interview first week of March. I was probably a borderline applicant and they just wanted another interview to decide if they should accept me or not.

The second interview has nothing to do with being accepted off the waitlist. They all occurred before decisions were sent out on March 31.

thanks for the information benny b. that really helps.

Harvard actually admitted 2046 students while only having 1655 seats open for the Class of 2013. However, there are people that reject their offer, making it necessary for them to use the wait list. This year’s yield has been reported to be 76%. So of the 2046 admitted students 76% accepted Harvard’s offer, which is 1555 students. So there should be 100 spots open. However, Harvard is supposedly still waiting on some students decisions. So Fitzsimmons gave us a conservative estimate of 85, and did say “at least 85.”

Anyone else have physics b or c exam tomorrow? That’s going to be exciting. I am going to be bummed if they call while I’m taking the test.

i have bio! yayy.

Just from reading these posts, it sounds like they do deliberations throughout the weekend, is that right? and if so, do they also make calls over the weekend too?

Thanks naveen for the info!

we are putting too much emphasis on the interview process. I didnt get ANY interviews whatsoever and was waitlisted. And its not like im “exceptional” so not having the interview wasnt the reason i was waitlisted. They only look at an interview if they are really comparing two people who are alike except for personality.

^^I don’t think that they make calls over the weekend. My guess would be that they make calls only during office hours, but this is just my guess.

I’m with naveen. I’m guessing no calls over the weekend and calls will start up again tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed!

This is interesting…I was recently in cambridge about 2 weeks ago so I decided to swing by the campus to take a look (people, I assure you it’s even better than the dreams). I stopped in the admissions office just to see where our futures are decided (86 Brattle St, I’m sure you all know) and bumped into a couple of people who were “coming in to interview.”

This was interesting because this can mean 1 of 2 things:

 1. they were called back?
 2. they have connections?

I’m not sure though, any thoughts on the matter?

I hope I get off Harvard’s waitlist.
I mean if I got off a waitlist for a school as prestigious as Duke, getting off Harvard’s shouldn’t be a problem at all!

^^Maybe they were interviewing for something else? Some special program at Harvard? It doesn’t seem like the Office of Admissions would call students on the wait list earlier than May 1st. But then again, maybe these guys were great wait list candidates? No, that doesn’t make sense either. If they were that great, then they wouldn’t need another interview. Sorry, just kinda talking it through. Um, I actually had a friend who was waitlisted at Wash U St. Louis, and he went there to plead his case. Those kids may have just shown up and asked for an interview, just to plead their cases.

Not sure, just some thoughts on what it could be. Maybe my post will help someone else think of a better reason. :)

Last year they made calls on saturday. You can guarantee no calls today because even admissions officers need a rest and it’s mother’s day.

AP Bio tomorrow and I have yet to open a book. ^_^

Again, most calls should start tomorrow. So good luck x1636 to everyone!

So, if we don’t get off the waitlist, does that mean we won’t hear about it until July 1? and has anyone heard of people being called on their cell phones for decisions?

I can’t wait. Ring away telephone!

^^I’m not sure about the July 1st question. But they supposedly call home first, then your cell phone and if no one picks up they email you to ask for the appropriate time to call you. So just save some time and keep your cell phone on :)

Good luck to everyone for your AP tests tomorrow. And more importantly good luck for the call :)

@ian121: I don’t know if Harvard does this but at a lot of colleges prospie students can arrange an on-campus interview, so I’d think they’d be juniors or something. Unless they actually were current seniors, then I have no idea. XD
