!!!!Official 2013 Intel STS Thread!!!!

Awesome!!! Was it on your cell? And what time zone are you in?!!! So proud of you!!

wow good luck guys! ah i hope i made it

i somehow made google, siemens, isef, and usaco last year, but who knows…i mean this is sts

wow those are some impressive stats. good luck @pineapple3.

@harbinger2204

thanks! any calls from you? i also made davidson and violin nationals but whatever

pineapple3 you made Davidson? Was is for 2013?? Because I am one too! PM me!!

Kennedyiceit, Thank you! Yes, I did receive the call on my cellphone. This will probably kill any chances of anonymity, but whatever haha, but I am from the Central Timezone.

I really do think that whoever had the caliber to reach the top 300 was qualified enough to be top 40. It’s about luck at this point, similar to Ivy Admissions.

For the record, I didn’t even make Siemens Regional Finalist. My academic stats aren’t near impressive at all, compared to many others!

No problem!! Congratulations again…it’s an incredible accomplishment! :D

well, never got a phone call…it was fun while it lasted! congrats to all the finalists!!

The fact that you made it this far is what counts, and is a testament to your resilience, since filling out the STS app itself is an accomplishment, let alone being semifinalist. Congrats to you, and everyone else!

haha thx terminatorp

Ahhh congrats terminatorp!! Looks like we’ll get to meet each other in March :)

I somehow missed the phone call yesterday (also ~4:50, but eastern) while watching a movie, but then called back a few minutes later after seeing the DC area code. Lol still not too sure how they had our cell numbers though… I don’t remember it being on the application, although maybe it was required to make an account?

And a huge ditto to your last post - filling out the STS app itself is indeed a great accomplishment, let alone being semifinalist!

In the end, any advice or perspective on the Intel process? I’ve asked for awhile about the role that standardized tests and grades come into play. Or previous lab experience? Also, to what extent does Intel factor into the college application process? Anybody willing to please kindly share their applications over private message?

how good is semifinalist on a college application?

how good is even entering on a college application?

Hi! I’m planning to do STS next year, and I was wondering what level of research generally gets accepted to it. This year, I only did Science Fair, and I didn’t move on from Regionals. (My experiment was Behavioral, on how paired collaboration influences ethical opinions.) I really want to do a Microbiology project, but I’m not sure if any contribution I make would be able to be good enough.
