It's that time of the season. Even if you don't live in the United States feel free to talk if you are aiming for ISEF.

Meh, the really fun research costs too much O_o… Hoping to get into some summer programs next summer and to pick up a few awards along the way :)

@Newdle This summer I decided not to go to camp and stay home to work on my research, we’re no camp buddies! I’m luckily doing computer science/statistics which costs absolutely no money, you should consider it!

@balledtoohard OH, GAWD. THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I’M DOING… However, I haven’t gone all-in with computer science yet–just checking out some videos here and then.

Just to clarify: I’m not doing research. I think it’d be a good idea to have a solid background with statistics and decent knowledge of computer science before I dew serm reeeeseeeaarch :P

@Newdle What a coincident! I’m also reviewing my statistics knowledge so I can get the basis down. I have several ideas, but its really whether I can learn the programming language in 1 month or at max 2 months to implement my ideas. It’s great to have interest in computer science, good luck!

What advice would you give a rising junior who would love to do original research but doesn’t know where to start? I’m knowledgable and interested in almost all subjects, biology, physics, math, computer programming (Java and HTML/CSS/JavaScript), and chem somewhat. I would LOVE to do somehing like STS, Siemens, or Google science fair, but I don’t know where to start.

Bumping the thread

We don’t have an ISEF qualifying fair here. 8-|

@Ynotgo Google science fair seems to have some good stuff going on, why not submit there?

I’m doing a Statistics research project right now, do you all think statistics projects in general have any potential in Intel/ISEF?

@cso1640 I believe something like PCA analysis of medical data or to take it much further, bayesian statistical analysis of life science data will be pretty strong. Simple data analysis wont cut the edge for the competition since most researches already do that.

@balledtoohard That’s true; my project is along the lines of biostatistics so hopefully it will be pretty strong. Thanks!

@cso1640 Good luck!

Bumping, lets post researchers!
