*"Official" 2013 USABO*

i didnt take many previous years tests and i didnt really see any familiar question ive seen before on the test…just 1 of them. were there any others?

What do u guys predict cutoff will be ?

in my opinion, based on the difficulty, hopefully low 20s

Do you guys know when the scores come out?

^website says march 4

^was it that hard?

One thing i noticed about this year’s test was that it seemed to focus on more general concepts a lot more than 2012 open did. There were also sometimes multiple questions asking about basically the same thing, which considering the breadth of material covered in USABO i felt was kinda unwarranted.

@kanshi @everyone else
The difficulty wasn’t extraordinary, less difficult than 2012 but honestly not bad. Maybe even like 2011, definitely easier than 2010 and 2012 though. I know a number of people from my school expecting 30+ scores from just reading campbell’s once through, and for them 30 is a pessimistic estimate. I’d actually predict cutoff to be around 26 or 27, but considering how a lot of people on this thread are responding it might be closer to 23 or 24

Does Open focuses more on biodiversity than evolution?

Is this year’s format like 2012: each problem just have one correct answer?
Or like other years that one problem has multiple correct answers?

Test was not extremely difficult. I think the cut off will be mid to high 20’s.
Remember, people in the NE are getting extra time for the blizzard. Refrain from discussing questions/topics.

My son (sophomore) took a test yesterday.
It was not pretty hard than he expected.
This is the first time to him and his school.
Not enough information to prepare.

Good luck to everybody!

It might be a dump question:

Which book do you all use to learn about diagnosing diseases which usually appear on usabo.

derp would you say 25 is too low for the cutoff?

I took it Monday. Was not too bad. Good luck to all.

@besthope
I didn’t use any other book besides Campbell’s

That was an interesting test…

When are we allowed to start discussing answers, taking into account the NE extension?

this probably means the score anouncement date and SF date will be postponed

@ ramboacid

End of next week would probably be safe. If you call CEE they will tell you when all of the exams have been administered.

I know we’re still stressing about open, but it’s not too early to start thinking about semis :D

Looking over last year’s thread NSQ said something along the lines of knowing 100% of campbell’s is less preferable than 90% campbell’s and 50% raven’s plants. But just wondering, what does 50% raven’s entail? Do we need to know select parts of everything, or are only half the chapter’s pertinent to USABO, because the first half of raven’s is a lot of review from campbell’s…
