So I’m taking AP Macro and Micro tests next year, though my school offers one AP Econ course which covers macro one semester and micro the other semester. Do you guys have recommendations for what review books to get as the test date gets closer?

Right now I’m looking at buying from my friend either PR or the REA macro and micro prep books: which publisher should I get? I’m a little hesitant to get the PR because I realized (at least for last year) that PR can be either too info overload or too general. I used the REA books for chem and apush last year, and thought it was perfect, but I’m not sure if that extends to Econ or not. Any thoughts?

I heard 5 steps was pretty good for Econ. Does anyone who took Econ last year have any thoughts on this book?

@Nolasola: I’m taking Macro for the first time this year and got the 5 Steps for the course, which is surprisingly thorough and understandable in how it describes and illustrates definitions and formulas.

I’d definitely recommend it. Just reading the book before even taking the class has given me a basic, solid understanding of Macro’s core concepts.

I will also be taking micro and macro in a year long course. I decided to get barrons for prep, though I’ve been so consumed studying for the bio subject test and the §sat, I’ve barely looked at my econ book.

Some of the terms in Macro are awfully interesting and make you think about things in the economy you’ve never really even noticed. I think this class is going to be somewhat enjoyable (aside from the graphs).

My school just added AP Econ (Macro and Micro combined) to our class offerings because they had to cancel our AP Psych class, so I had the opportunity to switch into it. I did really well in a regular econ class last year, but I don’t know much about the AP class because my school has never offered it before. Is there anything I should do to prepare before the school year starts? I’m a little nervous but also kind of excited; econ is pretty interesting. :)

If you guys can afford it. The month before the exam you should pay $45 for educator.com. If you use their video lectures and the kaplan review book, you will get a near perfect score.

I also recommend educator.com. The best thing about it is that you pay one monthly fee and you get access to every course. Last year, I used educator.com for nearly every class I was in. Physics, AP Psychology, AP Comp Sci, etc. It helped me a lot and there is no doubt in my mind that I’ll continue to use it next year. In regards to AP Micro/Macro, I found the Barron’s to be really helpful in addition to the educator.com videos.

So if I use educator.com, I will have access to all of my AP courses and not have to pay separately for each class? I’m also doing AP Bio and AP Lit next year and I think I may need a little bit of help with Bio. If it’s worth the money, I might save up and do it second semester or the last month as jimmyboy23 suggested.

Exactly! I found it to be worth the money, personally. BUT, check out the example videos for each subject and see if you think it’ll help. That is the best way to find out if personally it will help you. When I took AP Psychology, I used educator.com a lot at first, and then I realized how time consuming it was. So for AP Psychology, I didn’t find it AS worth it as math or physics. Like I’ve said, it is really up to you to figure it out effective it is for you personally.

Hey guys! At my school, they only offer macroeconomics that you have to take in conjunction with us government to fulfill graduation requirements. I"ve used Barron’s for all my courses before expect for US History (I used crash course). What would you suggest to use if Macro is only being offered as a semster?

Thank you @Irrational18! I will definitely check it out. :)

@emenya, I’m taking Macro this year too, but I’ve heard Princeton Review is best for Econ and Government. I’ve also heard good things about Barron’s for Econ and Crash Course for Gov.

No problem, @ashleybear97! I’m glad I could help.

@emenya - I’ve been using Barron’s for AP Micro/Macro and I think it is fine. I haven’t used any other textbooks so I can’t compare it to anything else, but as of right now, I think I’m well off with just Barron’s.

Thank you @Irrational18 and @ashleybear97 I’ll check them both out and see which one I like

My school only offers AP Macro and not Micro. I find it odd they’d offer one but not the other.

@PharzonFire That is odd. My school is kind of doing the same thing; the class itself is Macro and Micro combined, but I believe we’re only able to take the Macro exam.

My school offers neither Micro, nor Macro. I’ll be doing these two courses as a self-study (which sometimes I actually prefer). :P

Macro is actually a really fun class!

I agree, emenya! I’m really enjoying Macro so far as well. It’s pretty easy and we’ve been doing a bunch of fun projects. :)
