hey guys so since there wasn’t yet 1 thread where all the waitlisted candidates could post… I thought this would be helpful!
Just some facts: UCI takes a lot of their waitlisted candidates and last year they started to accept people a week before the May 1st deadline to SIR at a different school!
soo, I found this website called college data that has UCI’s current up-to-date statistics.
I don’t wanna be a downer, but normally around 6000 new freshmen enroll every year…
and it’s already over 7000 (more than 30% of admitted committed)… and I was getting really worried.
Does anyone know if this means they won’t be looking at waitlists or appeals? http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=730
@chickenislife no, that’s not their current up to date statistics. If you’ll notice, that data set also includes the amount of students who accepted admission off of the waitlist, which hasn’t even happened yet. Numbers for this year won’t be posted until next month, officially by UCI themselves
Hi. From my speculations, I think uci will accept a lot from the waitlist this year. When UCI accepts around 35%, they accept a lot from the waitlist. 2012 and 2014 was around a 35-36% acceptance rate, therefore the reason why almost everyone if not all was accepted off the waitlist. 2013 they had around a 42% acceptance rate because they decided to accept more upfront instead of relying on the waitlist, which is the reason why no one was accepted off the waitlist in 2013. Also, there is a uc budget crisis this year and so the uc schools do not know how much funding they will receive from california. Many articles have posted and the uc people have said themselves that they will probably get a lot of people from the waitlist this year if they receive more state funding. Even if we don’t receive more state funding, because of the idea that the uc’s dont know how much funding they’ll get, naturally the acceptances will be way lower than the target enrollment rate.It wouldn’t make sense for uci to have another 2013 situation when they have no idea how many students they should enroll, so yeah they’ll most likely accept less. (yeah i’m obsessed lol. I researched so much and sorry if it doesnt make sense I was too lazy to revise it)
@waitlisted1234 how do you know this year the accepted under the enrollment cap? You’re just assuming this. with 90k applicants this year, they couldve accepted a lot of people.
@killer321 yeah they’re gonna cap enrollment. Plus it wouldn’t make sense to accept a lot of students. they don’t know how many students they need to accept because of the undecided state funding. So why would they accept a lot? I think they would all get waitlisted/ get rejected/some accepted.
Also, I read ms. Sun’s blog and there were 9000 waitlist offers for UC davis ( although I didn’t apply there) compared to the usual 3000 offers in past years. This just proves how a lot of UC’s waitlisted many people this year especially. Everyone i know at my school was at least waitlisted to one school
