[] State or Country: illinois
[] Gender: female[/ul]

hkkxp…i have exactly same stats as you, with the exception that i take IB diploma and my CR score is 590. i got deferred from college of business as well…hope they will take us on feb 13…we can see each other then…

“well…perhaps it’s because you didn’t take honors classes?”

Almost every single one of the classes I took in high school were honors.

hmm
i really don’t know what to tell u then
my stats are comparable to urs (state awards, sports, gpa) except with a few more aps/satIIs and a slightly higher sat/act.
but i’m a ORM, whereas u r an URM…
i would have to guess either u bombed the essays, or UIUC has a harsh OOS policy

Well it’s not over yet. You’ll just have to wait until normal decisions.
I would say that maybe your rank killed your application. But I think you’ll get in.

I took honors classes all through high school, not a whole lot of other kids did…I’m kind of frustrated right now.

Is it definitely the GPA and class rank that killed me?

fiN01, I have a lot of respect for someone who gets MATH: 800, Chem: 800. My respect for UUIC will go down if they don’t accept you. Keep us posted. Goodluck. You should also research on admission criteria of diff places. There will be a better than UUIC place for you. UUIC does weigh in class rank heavily.

I’m sorry if I sounded elitist in my earlier post, that wasn’t my intention…UIUC WAS my reach school from the beginning so I’m not that upset. I thought i did pretty well on my essays, both of my parents liked them. My rank, I’m guessing, is what deferred me. At my school there is a HUGE discrepancy between the honors/AP and standard classes. The standard classes are a joke, it is literally impossible to fail some of them. However the other classes can be very very tough (for example in my AP Calculus class there have been negative exam scores!). Therefore there are tons of people taking greenhouse management or whatever other BS classes in the top 10%, whereas I study hard to get A’s and B’s in classes that are actually worth something but end up just outside the top 25%. That’s the whole issue I have with class rank.

fiN01, I am still positive you will get in at UUIC. I assume your rank is unweighted. Problem at UUIC is they look at the school reported rank. They don’t seem to care whether the school reports unweighted or weighted rank. Quote from UUIC college rep: Best students always get ranked higher regardless of what courses they take. Anyone who has taken hard courses knows this is bs.
