OFFICIAL ACT Scores Thread - April 2009

35 Composite. 1st Time Taker. With a 35, I got into 10 of my 11 schools: Pitt, Loyola-Chicago, Michigan, Northeastern ohio Universities colleges of medicine (accelerated BS/MD program), Carnegie Mellon, Vanderbilt, Case Western, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and Duke. Matriculated to Duke.

I got a 35 on english, but a 10 on my essay. I guess they liked mine =]

I got a 29 my first time in April and I’m taking it again in June and hoping to get at least a 32, although a 33 or 34 is more what i’d like. I was wondering if it was rare to raise it that much and what youd suggest me to study with or how to study. Thanks

first time i took it (8th grade) got a like 25?
then second time i took it (freshman) got like a 27
then third time i took it (sophomore) 34.25! with an 11 essay!
i guess studying helps…

This is so ironic because in school, math and science are my best subjects!

Anyone know if there’s a curve for this test? and how big it is if there is one?
because i really want to get a 32 or 33 on my June ACT and I want to know how realistic that goal is.

I heard that 55% of students who retake the ACT get a better composite score. I think the #1 thing you can do is get more practice. The first time I took it, I missed a whole section of reading/science cause I didn’t pace myself and I PANICKED! Obviously for those who take it the first time, it’s harder to work with “time management.”

Eventually, you’ll get the hang of it and improve. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE IN JUNE!!!

34, no prep or anything which was probably a bad move
(I had no idea there was a science section hahaha! that was such a joke, I looked at the problems and laughed and filled in random answers)

im happy but should have done better on math and science. I am skipping a grade in math and it along with science is my strongest subject. I feel like I should have been able to get 35 but I will happily take 34.

one point away from 36…grrrr

I got a 34 composite with no prep…but a 29 math.

If I 800 the Math II Sat Subject will the 29 be “overlooked”, or should I take it again?

I dont think most colleges look at the subscores of the ACT. Very few schools superscore the ACT, so im not sure how much the subscores are looked into. Besides, a 34 composite is pretty great.

Didn’t feel like digging up the Feb. ACT stuff, but mine (First attempt) was

I have this problem where I took Algebra II, Geometry and Precalc back in 8th grade and my freshman year and now it’s coming to bite me in the ass…Seriously, I finished AP Calc as a sophomore with a 5 on the AP Test, but I can’t even break 30 on the ACT? It’s the same deal with the SAT too… Do I just need to practice these problems more?

Im happy with my score (nothing special though, cuz it corresponds exactly with my SAT). I’m really nervous about the essay though, cuz i felt the topic was childish and i couldn’t go anywhere with it. im gonna retake again in sept, hopefully pull a 33-34 composite and a better essay. then ill retake the sat in nov (got 680 m, 680 w, 600 cr)

Dave, what do you mean they correspond? Your 30 is around a 2020-2050 percentile wise… Compared to a 1960, that’s a fairly large difference. Keep going with the ACT as it’s your better test.
