*** Official AP Biology Thread 2012-2013 ***

Hey guys, rising junior here. Anyone preparing for the upcoming course?

By the way, for some reason our school’s AP Bio teachers did not give out a summer assignment. I’m not sure if this is the “norm,” but what kind of homework did you guys receive? I’m wondering if there is a certain unit that other schools prefer the students cover over the summer through homework, so that our upcoming students can prepare too.

I’m in the same boat; I don’t have any assigned work over the summer because I’m taking it through distance learning (My entire shook only has one AP course: AP USH). The labs should be interesting? LOL… I wonder how that will work?
I’m just going to browse through an AP Bio book I’ve come upon; it has a workbook, so I’ll probably work through the first few chapters on my own to get a head start.
I’ll probably get a review book when they come out for the revised curriculum. (October-ish?)

Good luck! If you have a good teacher you’ll be fine, if not, study up! I didn’t have any summer work either, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get a basic understanding of some of the material before going into the class. And if you don’t have a great teacher, begin to read through the text book early so you don’t get overwhelmed when ap week comes around!

I got assigned work over the summer. 4 chapters with worksheets, due August 10th.

Woooo. -_-

But this one’s ~official~.

No summer work. :D

According to Gause’s law of competitive exclusion, only one organism can occupy a specific niche for an extended period of time.

There are two 2013 AP Bio threads on this forum. Both are trying to fulfill the same niche. One will die. One will survive.

My money is on this thread.

I’m working on learning the basic cell function. Yay for having to memorize all of the organelles!

Good luck :D. Fortunately, I’ve already taken 2 years of Biology. By the time I take the AP exam, I’ll have taken 3 years of Biology, so I should be extra ready :D.

Currently I’m preparing for the SAT II Bio exam but any preparation for the SAT II Bio exam will help me on AP Bio. If you want to read about my preparation …

I took basic bio freshman year. I’m now a senior, so everything’s foggy. Yay.

Good luck on SAT II bio! Luckily I’m in an ACT-based state, so my colleges don’t require that type of stuff.

So meta. Thanks.

^Haha just take the parentheses out next time :). But you got it :D. I’m a rising senior too.

I wonder if next year around May I’ll just stop caring about all my exams o.o.

In all honesty, I suffered from sophmoritis and junioritis. I got 4’s and 5’s on all of my exams. I’ll be fine. xD

I should really get started on this bio homework…I still have English to do too! 3 books!

Im a Rising junior my last biology class was freshman year (biology honors.) and my teacher didnt assignment summer homework … so im wondering what should i do over the summer … the teacher didnt assign anything but gave us a textbook saying “it’ll help to study over summer” … So like what do i do over the summer ?

And Any ideas on the new format of the curriculm how itll be like.

Study your basic cell functions and organelles. That’s probably your best bet.

Any idea on how they tackle genetics with the new curriculum?

My teacher said that with the new bio format stuff its little/to no body systems stuff … and every little botany (plants) … but thats its more genetics and molecular biology …

Im like completely clueless on this new bio format … i just hope its easier than last year :D

Hello, all you rising juniors/seniors! The AP exam has drastically changed-there is less MCQ and more FRQ, and the test is more lab based. From what I have heard, you will probably not use the book too much either. I’ve just finished AP bio, and my teacher was talking about all of the differences. Good luck!

This makes me way happier, though. Don’t like body stuff much, but I LOVE genetics.
