AP Biology is like a huge wake-up-call. I did so well in Honors Biology and thought that AP Biology was going to be a piece of cake. Two people are trying to switch out because they already have F’s in my class. I’m trying really hard to bring my 88% to an A before report cards come out.

Same here, got an 87% as of Friday, gonna haul ass to get an A by report cards. I hate chemistry, and unfortunately for me, we’re doing quite a bit of it right now, I long for the chapters on evolution. I long for you Darwin, sweet, sweet Darwin. Kreb Cycle just about blew my mind, going to take a rest from studying and read Heart of Darkness for Lit. Bleh…oh, and my class’ average grade is a 50…people must not read the textbook. I hate to read it, but it helps people, there’s no shortcuts in this class.

Did anyone tried Princeton Review’s new edition book? How is it?

Haha same I don’t like Evolution and Ecology. Evolution is my weakest point in Bio rofl. Anyone know any good study guides ?

I like to study by watching college intro biology lectures on YouTube.

How is everyone else’s AP Bio course? I heard it was a lot of memorizing but now that I’m in the course, it doesn’t feel like that. My teacher focuses on the concepts and spends almost 50% of the time on labs, Is this because of the new test or is it just I have a bad teacher?

@MedicalBoy Yeah, the new test is less memorization and more focus on the 4 big idea in Biology. Also labs are being focused on too.

I’m leaning on an 83% after my teacher corrects some mistakes I’ll be at an 89% hopefully it’ll round to a 90%

yeah, a lot of the time i feel like i know the material and the basic concepts, but my tests have been tricky and picky (hehe that rhymes). So I really think I need to study more on details, but how do you know which details are worth memorizing? and any helpful tips for memorizing them?

The major problem that I am worried about is transitioning to the new test format. It seems like my biology teacher is pretty used to the old format, and the test prep books do not seem to be very updated. What do you guys think? A lot of the questions that she showed us require little if any memorization, and are based more on interpretation.

I think that I now realize that I am NOT a biology type person. I think I like chemistry and physics WAY better. I wish that I would have known that before taking an AP Biology course. I have an 87 :(

@yerhs52 A 87 isn’t bad at all, I have a 85 in that class. This class is like a culture shock. I carry my AP Biology book almost everywhere lol.

so the first quater at my school is ending … and i finish the class this quarter with a 88% … not bad not bad at all in my opinon … but my Ap bio teacher just saved everyone in the classes life (my school only has 1 Ap bio class and only like 15 people r in the class) … my Ap bio teacher said she will bump everyones grade … by one whole letter grade … i love her so much for that …

My class is just finishing Photosynthesis right now. Are we way behind? If so, what do I need to catch up on? I really want a 5 on the test, so which review book should I be using?

Photosynthesis was our chapter 10 … and on monday we are taking the chapter 12 test (the cell cycle) … so i guess your just a little little bit … no much so i wouldnt worry

@Twiggy22 Our class is only on Metabolism and Enzymes. We would be a little far ahead, but our first unit was Evolution which took a month to complete. Also we’re STILL doing our evolution lab with artificial selection with the number of trichomes on each plant, and starting the Enzyme lab tomorrow (if we have school tomorrow…)

In Campbell, we’ve done Chapters 52-56 in ecology, Chapters 3-5 in biochemistry, Chapter 6 and 8 in the cell and we’re currently on Chapter 7. We are about two weeks into the second quarter.

CLASS PROGRESS:
Ch. 1-11 (Ch.12+13 test Wednesday!) 7th edition Campbell and Reece, such an old textbook
Done, like, 3-4 FRQ’s.
Just finished the mitosis lab yesterday, doing a chi-square case study tomorrow.

Wow, it sounds like everybody’s done the evolution unit haha. We haven’t done it yet, but I’m fine, because I’m not particularly interested in evolution.

Im on the same progess with math guy … i have 7th edition campbells and we have done chapters 1-12 … and we are on chapter 13 now (meiosis) … my class does a chapter a week … and we are in the 1st week of 2nd quarter … but my class hasnt done any evolution we are going in order … from 1 - 55 …

Bahaha Twiggy and I ARE exactly at the same progress
Oh no, mitosis + meiosis test tomorrow, wish me luck!
