OFFICIAL AP Calculus BC 2012 Test Thread

I also got no As in the MCQ part B. I doubt if the answer choices are shuffled… But To slake my suspicion, I marked the second last answer as ‘A’. My form code was O and the “exam number” ended in Q…

@kairos: I think that’s the SAT and/or ACT that you get answerss later for not giving a SSN.

Timing was (always is… LD :confused: …) my biggest concern going in. I spent way to much time with my educated guessing on one or two random ones and ended up guessing on the last 4 on the MC non-calc… which made me mad because they looked easy as I glanced at them (or rather they looked like familiar problems, like the polar one and limit of an integral). I thought the MC w/calc was really easy, which is odd because I usually suck at using the calculator under stressed time (and in general… D: ). FRQ w/calc seemed to go smoothly, seemed like very basic concepts from what I can recall. I messed up the elk one with the second derivative too and it’s killing my confidence in my grade bc I remember feeling really smart for answering (incorrectly) so quickly lol. The final FRQ non-calc section I was surprized by; I am statistically, nay, historically the LAST person in my class to finish tests/quizes/etc (although I usually score well). However, not only did I actually finished the FRQ B on time(15 seconds left lol), but MAJORITY of my class was still working (not checking answers.) The FRQs in general seemed like typical AP stuff: familiar concepts in unfamiliar applications. I say easy only in that I expected it to be harder. Im guessing I got maybe 65-75% correct, borderline 4-5… although I feel I DESERVE a 5!!! (and so does everyone else… lol)

Overall though, I think a lot of questions SEEMED easier than they were. I think people got a lot more wrong than they think they did. 5 minutes post testing, the top kids in my class seemed to think they did well and that it was easy; after discussing some of the “easy” questions, their confidence in their scores seemed to drop. Also, the average person on CollegeConfidential is probably going to report the test being much easier than the average students taking the exam(keep in mind the median student scores a 4 for BC I believe). So I counter predict my intuitive prediction by saying the curve will be typical. We shall soon see…

@kaduva: I think I would have noticed if I didn’t get any A’s, but I prolly got some wrong.

68 is the lower cutoff for a 5? Wow my teacher’s been using 80-83 as the lower cutoff and I was freaking out because I made some stupid mistakes on two of my FRQs… What’s the lower cutoff for a 4 then? About 50?

Anyone remember what the last part of the Calculator FRQ #1 asked for? I don’t remember it at all. It’s the one after the underestimation part.

Was FRQ 1 about the tea and biscuits? If so, part d) gave a function for the rate of change in temp. for the tea from t = 20 to t = 25 and asked for an estimation of the temperature at t = 25. Something like that. It involved FTC.

why are people so obsessed with if they had any A’s or not? they’re all random. why do those things matter so much?

i don’t know, but it’s freaking me out because it seems i’m the only one who can’t remember any of my answers! D:

@cocoforcollege yessss, you’re not alone :)

Hey. I was wondering…I think I missed 7 MC questions overall, and missed the second derivative on the bird weight question and messed up the interval of convergence (for got to include -1)…what are the chances of scoring a 5?

Also, I seem to remember having gotten 3 B’s in a row

CRAP, I hope you guys are wrong about there being no A’s on the MC … cuz I literally filled in A for the last 8 questions of the MC part A that I didn’t finish. If you guys are right, then I got a 4 for sure…
I’ll hope you’re wrong though, cuz I aced the MC part B and the FRQ. So as long as I had a little luck on my side for those MC part A guesses, I’ve got a shot at a 5. :smiley:
emilys, on the 2008 released exam, a 5 was a minimum 69 and a 4 was a minimum 59.

edit: OH WAIT, I just realized that I had the international form I; the questions would have been completely different. Just kidding … complete blonde moment, hehe. I am noticing some similarities between the tests though … like I had the bird weight question, but nothing about tea and biscuits.

@annabanana
I know it doesn’t really matter what we got, but it makes us feel better if we know other people had the same trends on their answers.

For the calculator MC, I got maybe one or two A’s, but I think almost half were B’s, especially the first few.

@MandieJ

Unless I took a totally different test from everyone else, we didn’t have a tea and biscuits problem, either. That sounds a lot like FR #2 from 2011. This year, we had an equation modeling the heating of a tub of water, I believe.

That test was an insult to our intelligence. Anyone who thinks that was hard should not be getting college credit. I’d be shocked if I lost more than 5 points on the entire exam.

Honestly I think the FRQs need to get harder. For motion questions, they have now become “here is dx/dt and dy/dt” find speed, acceleration, etc. The ‘word’ problems like the first one need to get more difficult.

I was shocked at how little volume and polar stuff there was. AP seems to have given up on variety of subject material. The parametric was really straightforward, as was the Taylor series.

Well, of course conceptually the test was super easy, the thing that it comes down to though, is the pressure and how that affected things. Im top of my calc class, but on this exam i can see myself making a few dumb errors or getting points off for things like writing the two over the wrong letters in the leibniz notation for the second derivative

Hey i had form O. for the last question on MC calculator section, it asked about a euler question and how it relates to the graph itself. i put B that f double prime x is positive, or that the graph is concaved up. that choice was B, as was a ton of others.

Anyone else get the same anser?

@ seanyboy:

You should probably delete your post. You can’t talk about the multiple choice (at least not so openly). But if I was to give you a hypothetical answer… it would be something along the lines of "Est

D’13 said that she only got a couple A’s on the MC as well. Felt like the OP was crazy easy.

So guys, let’s talk about curving/grading now. What do you guys think will be the cutoff for a 5 this year, worst-case scenario?
