Official AP Chemistry Thread (2014-2015)

Just fyi I dont think we need to know 3rd order, just 0,1and 2

How do you do electrolytic cells?

does anyone know how to do #2 on 2014 practice?

@newdle my teacher said something about spectrophotometry but he’s not sure so I just wanted to see what everyone else is thinking. I can definetly see electrolytic cells coming up

Noob, ive seen a lot about spectrophotometry, mostly about absorbance vs concentration

I’ve decided to just go over 2013 and 2014 for frq practice, and hope that the fates look upon me or something for this test.

@Mathman97 do you have a pretty good grasp on it? I’m still a little lost. What type of question do you think they’d ask relating to absorbance vs. concentration

Does anyone know if we’re gonna be pressed on time similar to last year for the FR despite the 10 minute addition? I hope not…

Oh no…I got a 38/60 on the MC practice test in the Princeton Review. I want a 5 but this isn’t looking good.

i think generally, its just the more concentrated(higher the molarity) the more light is absorbed and the less goes through the solution

@shough101: I’m sure they are going to be extra careful to not repeat that mistake.

@iambigfoot I really hope so. I’d rather not be flipping back and forth for 3 hours.

thats a pretty good 4 at least

I believe so @iambigfoot

and for whoever asked about electrolysis, an electrolytic cell is the same as galvanic/voltaic except for two things

  1. electrolytic is reactant favored, meaning it is not spontaneous and so it uses an outside power source of electrons, such as a battery.
  2. the anode is positive and the cathode is negative because the direction of the electrons is reversed from the galvanic cell with electrons now going from anode to cathode

almost every week we had a guy who creates questions and works for ap chem come in to teach us and i feel like i gained a lot of understanding from him but i still feel generally unprepared. i know everything but i don’t know what topics they fit into which is what always kills me in tests. like if you say “do a thermodynamics problem example”, i can’t, but if you say “you need to use PV=nRT”, i can. idk i’ve never done well knowing the title of the things i do ugh

omg I didn’t even realize I needed this till now, thanks @Mathman97

wtf is a spectrophotometer?

@JuicyMango - Sorry for the super late reply, but can’t the H bond to the O in acetone?

Does anyone know if we have to flip back and forth for the reference sheet/periodic table like we do for the SAT II?

I think we can rip it out @glasshours
