Not sure if someone already mentioned this, but my AP Chem teacher said they are adding 15 minute to the FRQ this year. Also, I am currently using the PR book (I think it simplifies the info to manageable chunks). My teacher gave us the Fast Track to a 5 book, which corresponds with our textbook Chemistry (7th edition). It has all of the absolute info with almost no superfluous details.
Eh, should I get rid of my Barron’s copy and buy a Princeton Review, then?
My teacher was talking about the Fast Track to a 5 books but I was really confused because I never received one. I don’t know where everyone got them from. I should probably ask.
@dsi411 You can buy the Fast Track to a 5 books on Amazon.
@Qwerty568 Oh ok, thanks. I’ll see if I can buy one.
Hey does anyone know where i can get practice tests and questions for AP chem other than from CB? Like just practice questions without any/much notes! Thanks!
@amlchn Here are tons of practice questions:
- 600+ AP Chemistry practice questions: http://www.learnerator.com/ap-chemistry
- Interactive Review materials: http://www.sciencegeek.net/APchemistry/APtaters/directory.shtml
- Hundreds of practice questions: http://www.adriandingleschemistrypages.com/apquiz.html
- 1994 Released AP Chem Exam: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/repository/chemistry-released-exam-1994.pdf
- 1999 Released AP Chem Exam: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/repository/chemistry-released-exam-1999.pdf
Hope that helps!
@HastyCentaur thanks so much!!!
Hey guys my second semester starts tomorrow and we are going into thermodynamics. Where is your class at right now?
VSEPR theory
@noahhowins Finishing up kinetics, and moving on to equilibrium after. We have 4 topics or so (left) to cover, and then the test.
Finishing up IMF, solutions. Moving on to kinetics.
Hey, I was wondering whether this AP exam is worth self-studying for? At my school, you cannot take AP Chemistry until you are a junior. Should I self study this, alongside with honors chemistry, or should I wait until I can take the AP Chemistry course at my school?
It eats up quite a bit of time compared to simple AP’s. You can study about 4 easy ones in the time you can study AP chem. If you just want ap credit, study APES STATS Economics. Else, sure self study it. I finished the AP curriculum self studying 2 months non stop. Pretty sure I will get a 5
What textbooks do you guys use?
@granolaislyfex I use the Zumdahl one.
I got the Fast Track to a 5 book from my school. I can’t write in it though. Do you all think I should still buy another prep book?
@18d0m1n4t3 Ideally you should wait until you’ve at least taken Chem or Honors Chem, because the concepts of AP Chem heavily rely on the previous year. So if anything, it’d be best to just take AP Chem junior year in class, but if you want to self-study, at least take a year of chem beforehand.
@dsi411 We use the Zumdahl’s “Chemistry” book as well. Fifth edition I believe. We were going to use the seventh edition book this year, but we didn’t order enough of them because the class turnout was larger than our teacher expected. I find the older edition still works really well.
As for the prep book, are you studying AP Chem in class or on your own? I don’t think you’ll need another prep book if you have a teacher to help you (or at least in our AP Chem section; we spend a whole month just taking AP practice exams). For self-studying though, you might want a supplement book, because AP Chem is supposedly a difficult class to self-study, and it’d behoove you to have all the help you’d get. I’ve heard Barron’s was a good prep book to use. Make sure to get the newest edition book, though, because of the new exam format.
@niletheriver I’m studying AP Chem in class, so I guess I don’t need another prep book.
anyone have practice tests? like for the new version?
I believe prep books should have full-length exams; just make sure they are the newest edition.
