The prompt did say something along the lines of choosing a culture and evaluating the function of polite language in that culture
The MC was fine if not a little easier than usual. Hoping for a 75%-80% which is what I usually score on them.
Synthesis essay- Felt really good about this one. My counterarguments were a little weaker than I would have liked them to be but eh it should do. Probably an 8/9
Rhetorical analysis essay- I knew it’d be the hardest one for me and while it was it still wasn’t too bad. I probably should have focused more on my analysis and less quotes but I was pressed for time by this point. I used cause and effect and appeals to history. Probably a 6/9
Argument essay- My first example was spot on I felt really good about it but my second example was pretty weak because I was so lost for time at this point I had to think of something in a hurry. Both were personal experience/observation type examples which makes me sad because it sounded too informal I was trying to connect it to some piece of literature or a movie or history or something but blanked and needed something on the paper. 7/9 or 8/9
Really hoping for a 5
But what’s all this about a culture?? I read that prompt at least 10 times to make sure I wasn’t missing something and unless it was implied and I didn’t catch it I really don’t remember that part at all. I hope not because I didn’t reference culture in my essay much maybe a little but not much at all…
MC I thought was overall easy, (I did a 2,3,4,1 order) passage 1 (man vs animal) was tough for me, not sure why.
Synthesis I thought was really odd, the sources weren’t very good and it was tough to make an argument. I basically said that honor codes are valuable but the responsibility needs to be placed on students rather than administration.
RA was okay, not great at them. Did allusions/pathos, repetition/parallelism, and logos/ethos.
Argumentative I thought was a cake walk. Used political speeches (more specifically FDR’s fireside chats), Great Gatsby (with “Ol’ sport” and others), and various personal examples and overall got kinda sappy with it.
Don’t know why everyone is stressing about a culture, 99% sure that wasn’t on there. It was just about the value and function of it.
Overall I thought it was an easy test, think I got a 5. Was not stressed for time at all, finished the MC 10 minutes early and the essays 20 minutes early. Time to cram for US and Bio!!!
Anyone know why there were like 4 pages of “There is no test material on this page” after the questions/sources? They usually have a few for outlines but that seemed pretty excessive.
What happens if you messed up on a rhetoric device for the essay? Like you totally misspelled it. For example, putting parasydeton instead of polysynderon (don’t worry I didn’t out that)
Felt great about multiple choice, it was definitely way easier than the practice ones we’ve done in my class. I also finished it with a few minutes to spare, which I was not expecting.
I feel awful about all 3 of my essays… Dont know what happened I just didnt connect with the prompts and felt kinda off my game or something. Hope it all turns out okay…
I’m just gonna try to forget about it for a few months until scores come back, no need to worry about it since theres nothing I can do to fix it now!
Wow ok I meant put* and polysyndeton*
@lol888888 In the end it’s about whether they know what you’re talking about. If it’s comprehensible, you’ll be fine. However, spelling errors certainly do not help.
I also struggled with the first set of MC. I’m always a little too critical of my writing so it’s hard to say how I did on that. Just hoping the curve is in my favor!
Wrote a satire for the argument essay; feeling really good ocerall
The culture thing was writing about a culture that you were most familiar with
@zigzag27 You sure you gonna study for Bio? That was Monday lol
@Ngzk07 My counselor was talking about this after the test – if you numbered every page, you’re good. If you numbered the start of each prompt, you’re good. If you did no numbering, you’re in trouble. If you made it obvious as to which essay was which, you might be okay (the graders aren’t that stupid ;D)
I thought the MC was kind of rough… Especially the 1st passage.
The 1st and 3rd essays were weird in how dumb they were.
Were you supposed to discuss your OWN school’s honor code in the first essay? I just talked about them in general.
And I didn’t discuss a specific culture in my 3rd essay…hoping that is ok…
@Broncaholic9 Our school usually has the science students take the late exams in order to prepare more. In this case US and Bio are May 20 and 22, respectively.
@aplangq The honor code was in general, and whether or not you agree with it existing in schools.
I’m still fairly certain there was nothing about culture on the Arg, but I could be wrong, crossing my fingers I’m not.
@aplangq same here. I discussed them in general, I don’t understand why you would talk about specific codes. The prompts were really bizarre imo. Like so many people had different understandings of them
In about 48 hours CB will end this “debate”.
@lol888888 Yeah they really were weird. Like I wanted something more interesting… honor code good or bad? I mean obviously cheating is bad… Polite speech’s function…wtf… give me something at least SLIGHTLY more interesting
Gosh… if anyone every decides to study (or self-study if you didn’t get that much help from the class), definitely buy Barron’s. It made today’s MC look like a piece of cake…
I’m not sure if we’re allowed to discuss the FRQs yet, since they haven’t been released (I’m just saying this so we don’t get in trouble), but they were rather easy.
What are the chances of readers docking points for misnaming a famous person? i.e. William Churchill vs Winston Churchill (that wasn’t my actual mistake but you get the drift) It’s a person very frequently mentioned in the media so I’m embarrassed I accidentally botched their name, haha. I know the readers will understand who I’m talking about, but I don’t know if factual accuracy is a factor in grading.
