My AP Lang score has “code 84-score delayed” next to it…But I got three 5’s and one 4 for my other AP’s last year

Got a 5 on the test and so many thoughts about it.
MC: The first passage was there just to wear people out it was exhausting to read, but you just gotta fight. After climbing that mountain, the rest of the passages were simple enough and the MC were straightforward. A topic that I feel is generally ignored in Language though is references and footnotes. Those little questions can cost you or help you.
FRQs: In my opinion, surprisingly the rhetorical analysis was the easiest because it was about a contemporary work. On the other hand, the argumentative was just wacky and a random topic(seriously respect?). The synthesis was okay as I can see its relevancy, but it was okay.
Overall I think it is crucial to be able to manage your time and start working on the essay you find the easiest and spend 30 minutes on that one tops.

A bit late on this - totally forgot to post my score. I got a 4! Quite happy with the results because I was almost certain my essays would land me a 2. Not too proud of my work, but it got the job done  Nice work everyone!

Any advice on how to get a 5 on this exam?

I’m taking it this year…

Thx!

Those asking about how to score a 5: don’t stress. This isn’t an exam you can cram for. Just learn to take apart reading passages, aim for -3 on practice multiple choice sections, and read A LOT to improve your own writing. You don’t have to rely on formulas to do well on the essays – just write and get your point across, nobody cares if you use 8 paragraphs of varying lengths instead of 5 of the same length.

@stantonstudent I agree with the person above. DON’T STRESS ABOUT THIS EXAM AT ALL. It’s one of the easier AP exams since it doesn’t require memorization of facts or application of knowledge. You just gotta make sure you understand the passages given to you and know how to tackle the essays. Here are some tips:

  1. Read a lot. Rather than turning on your TV to watch netflix, grab a book and a nice cup of tea and just read. The more you read on a daily basis, the faster you will find yourself getting through a passage and absorbing the information at the same time. I know that on tired days, I would have to re-read a passage over 3 times in order to understand what the author is trying to say. You don’t want that to consume all your time when you can learn to read a passage once and understand it the first time.

  2. Write a lot. Write in your spare time. Write about anything that you’re passionate about, anything that interests you. Then, read it over and edit your writing. Writing, along with reading, helps you build up your vocabulary bank and it also exercises your flow of thought, which helps you become more articulate so that your mind doesn’t go blank when it comes time to write the essays. I wrote fan fiction for pleasure my entire junior year, and my writing skills profoundly improved. lol -_-

  3. Have good test taking strategies. Some native English speakers manage to score 3’s but many English learners score 5’s. HOW? Well, strategies! For the passage reading sections, buy a practice book and take the practice tests. I recommend CliffNotes. I took 2 practice exams the day before the exam and they helped me become familiar with the format of the multiple choice portion.
As for the essays, I watched YouTube videos that taught me how to structure the essays. There are three types of essays, and each one should be written differently. But don’t forget to write in a way that is comfortable for you. When you finish, read all your essays over and if your thoughts sound organized, then you should be good to go. Remember that writing skills can only be built over time.

Trust me on all of these tips because my AP Lang teacher did nothing to prepare us for the test. All we did in class was chit chat (not to mention, the week before the exam we just played games). Good luck next year. I hope you score a 5! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

P.S: I got a 5.

@itsjanice

Thx for the tips!

As for the youtube resource, could you please provide some more specifics.

Also, I will be taking 3 other AP Exams this year and IB exams as well, so AP Lang isn’t my foremost worry…

Thx,
