***** OFFICIAL AP English Literature 2014-2015 *****

The first multiple guess passage was probably put there to ruin your confidence for the rest of the test. Loved the humor in the fourth passage, however. Overall, the middle passages were easier than the first and last. Essays 1 and 2 sucked

Even though I hated the book, I used Tess of the D’urbervilles for Essay 3 and felt somewhat good about it.

APLit on Twitter is seriously too good.

Did anyone else laugh IRL when they read “the ponies’ hidden intentions”?

I read some of the Tweets. I love all the inside jokes only the people who took the test can understand x)

Are you positive about that? I had talked to my teacher about what would be acceptable and asked about certain books in particular with I was familiar and comfortable with if nothing I had read in school I felt comfortable using for the prompt (I asked him Life of Pi, A Game of Thrones, Behind the Beautiful Forevers, and Lord of the Rings trilogy) and he said those would all be acceptable as they were well respected in the Literary world and that I should use what I feel most comfortable with that fits the prompt. I had also know a person who used ASoFI and they got a 4 on the exams.

I’m just concerned that a more snobbish grader might think of the TV show and think of it more as a pop culture novel.

It fits the criteria as a novel of literary merit, as in a quality written novel that focuses on the human condition, high focus on complicated characters and literary devices and such, it just happens to be fantasy.

My first two essays I felt were very strong. 4 pages for my first and 3 for my second, and the body’s were structured in a Topic, Where, What, How, Why, Conclude form.

Crime and Punishment was perfect for this prompt, and luckily I know the book well. C & P would’ve worked for the past 3 years on essay #3.

I used to love ponies… not anymore!

I was debating between Streetcar Named Desire and Hamlet. Chose Hamlet in the end

The first passage was horrible lol…I wrote about Wuthering Heights, easy pick for the prompt.

My AP score is as big of a joke as WLNG radio

It being a TV show isn’t a problem. Oryx and Crake is becoming a TV show and it’s literary merit. Truth is, none of us are AP graders so we’ll all have different opinion on its status. Just wait until July

I feel like I understood the first MC passage, but I probably didn’t at all. Anyway, the rest wasn’t too bad. The MC got my confidence up, and then the first two FRQ’s crushed it very quickly

With my luck, my essays will probably be scored by the harshest grader…and they’re not exactly great to begin with.

Why would you guys not use Heart of Darkness?

I wrote about “Flight” by Sherman Alexie. A fairly unknown book, but it was absolutely PERFECT for this prompt. I wrote a solid 4 pages for that one.

Predictions for essays:

Essay 1: 7 (maybe less, I’m not sure)
Essay 2: 5 or 6 (didn’t feel fantastic about this one)
Essay 3: 8 or 9 (felt REALLY good about this one)

MC prediction: 35-40 out of 55

Hoping for a 5. Does it seem plausible with this score? It will be close, that’s for sure…

@rkepp12 AP Pass said 4 when I did 37 MC, 7, 5, and 8. It’s close to a 5 though.

@pathospablo Thanks! We’ll see what happens; I figure it will be close, but I won’t know until July!

That’s a perfectly acceptable choice.

@henrhg1 I didn’t know they were talking about ponies until a while, haha… And it was super creepy…

Also… Anybody else think that the first two FRQs were super sketchy?

I wrote on McCarthy’s The Road, since it seemed like a reasonable choice. I also wrote an essay on a topic pretty close to the prompt two days ago for the same book. When I saw the prompt on the test, I was sooo happy! Just reused the essay ideas I wrote about before, so pretty sure got an 8 or a 9.
