Official AP Euro '11 Thread

phew, i am taking this test… of the ap government test and this test, i am certainly more worried about this one…

our teacher gives us packets for each unit and he just gave us some review questions from other years and then a multiple choice practice test…

right now, im looking over the russian revolution… my teacher told us that the test doesnt ask questions about wars or battles so that decreases the amount of material by a lot.

so i just got this quote from the college board website.

“Approximately one-third of the questions focus on intellectual and cultural themes, one-third on political and diplomatic themes, and one-third on social and economic themes. --AP Program”

What I’m worried about is the free response essay section… Our teacher barely gave us ANY practice so I still don’t know how to write one. I had to learn all the course material all myself because she wouldn’t teach, and I really really want to get a 5 on this test. Any suggestions for the free response?

“Approximately one-third of the questions focus on intellectual and cultural themes, one-third on political and diplomatic themes, and one-third on social and economic themes. --AP Program” → A.k.a. everything, lol.

Wish me luck, guys. I’m only at the Age of Exploration in my review.

Where are you all at so far?

Just took my first practice test…53/80 on MC. 66%. I guess that’s around a 4? Hard to tell now that the penalties are gone and past curves might change a bit.

Gah, I need to review the Cold War and WWI/WWII already. Time to go back to Barron’s. :)

And also, because I saw this happening in other AP threads…why don’t we write questions to quiz each other to prep for the test?

^I think a 66% is on the border between a 4 and 5.

Yeah, I think 68% has been a 5 (or around there) in the past. But I need to do as well as possible on the MC since my DBQ score is bound to be subpar.

MissxSilverwing has a good point. Let’s ask in sets, though! It’s quicker and more efficient. Who wished to go first?

Martin Luther believed that the most important role for a Christian woman was to
(A) minister to the sick and poor
(B) preach the word of God in church on Sunday
(C) become a wife and mother
(D) lead a life devoted primarily to prayer and contemplation

(A) Emancipation of the serfs
(B) Legalization of the Bolshevik party
(C) Universal suffrage
(D) A free press
(E) The creation of the Duma

GOGOGO! Now, common, those were pretty easy ones.

C, a, d, e

Oh gosh. I’ve been studying for all of my other AP tests and pretty much pushing this one back… it’s about time that I start figuring out what the heck I’m going to do here. I believe I will just read AP Acheiver (I am about… five pages in) and highlight what I don’t know, and go back before the test and read it over. That isn’t too much at all but hopefully I’ll end up alright–I already know a good portion of the material.

I have a feeling that the test isn’t going to be too rough. I think we know more than we realize.

I hope you’re right! Meanwhile, I came up with some questions…harder than the last set, and pretty specific, since I got them straight out of my notes.

Medieval art differed from Renaissance art in that it:

A) Was often patronized by wealthy merchants
B) Lacked overt religious themes
C) Usually featured statues as parts of columns or churches
D) Featured chiaroscuro as a way of creating depth
E) Depicted the human body in meticulous detail

During the French Revolution, the Committee of Public Safety:

A) Was eliminated by the Constitution of 1795
B) Was headed by George Danton
C) Preceded the Consulate
D) Presided over the Oath of the Tennis Court
E) Revoked the Civil Constitution of the Clergy

Which of the following philosophers most influenced the French revolution?

A) Voltaire
B) John Locke
C) Thomas Hobbes
D) Immanuel Kant
E) Denis Diderot

Which of the following best explains why Mary Tudor failed to restore Catholicism to England?

A) The English people violently resisted Catholicism
B) The nobility would not allow the restoration of convents and monasteries
C) Many English citizens mistrusted Mary’s husband, Charles V
D) Mary failed to produce an heir
E) B and D

All of the following are true of Peter the Great’s impact on Russia EXCEPT:

A) He suppressed the power of the Eastern Orthodox Church
B) His Table of Ranks encouraged social nobility
C) He went to war with Italy to secure warm water ports on the Mediterranean sea
D) His ban on beards and traditional Russian dress successfully Westernized the nobility
E) He centralized and increased the effectiveness of the Russian government

The question about Mary Tudor comes directly from my class notes, fyi, if it seems kind of funky.

Answers (highlight): C, A, B, E, C

Hey, bethechange, that’s what I’ve been doing.

I’ve actually been doubting whether I should do that because on another thread, nearly everyone else has been using PR, but whatever, I’m about four chapters from the end of the content review in Achiever.

What really bugs me is how I read something and cannot remember it in the next hour. Am I only the one here without an “eidetic” (fancy word, EddieAP!!) memory?

Also, does anyone know how similar Achiever questions are to the real AP? They seem easier, and I don’t want to be “under-prepping” myself…

I can’t be the judge of AP Achiever, never used it. I love Modern Euro History by Viault, btw, greatly detailed yet thorough.

Lol, I also lack the “eidetic” memory, I’ve reviewed monarchical England like 4 times, and it just doesn’t come to me.

Hey guys, how are you all doing? I started procrastinating again and just started on Absolutism in France. About two weeks left until the exam! I’m going to be crammmmming as much as possible of course. Hopefully I’ll get through Viault by next Friday. Then I’m going to read Princeton Review in two days, and all of Wednesday I will take practice tests (for APUSH and Euro). I’m just going to fill out an extended absence form at school for the first week of AP exams and stay home to study for tests! Hopefully I still have time to cram enough for a 5!

Okay, good luck guys!

Would anyone possibly have the 2009 released MC exam? Ah, thanks so much!
I’m so nervous for this test, must cram a lot in the next 2 weeks!

This, my friends, is the Age of Anxiety period, pun intended. I believe I have the 2009 MC portion, I’ll check and PM you if I do.

What are you guys doing to prepare as of now? For me our class is behind so we are just about to start the Cold war, which we won’t spend much time on, we went through WWII pretty quickly too. By myself I am going through my review book so that I can remember everything and I just finished reviewing the rise of absolutism and constitutionalism. Also I just took a practice MC test and got 51 right or 63.8% right. I didn’t do the FRQs or DBQ, but if I get a 6 on all of those then that would put me at a composite score of 117.4 (according to AP Pass), which is 1.6 off of a 5. I’m not as worried as I was. Some of my advise would be to review the French Revolution, going through the practice test I found that I got a lot of questions wrong about that because I just didn’t remember much from it (haven’t reviewed it yet).

Also, we spend a lot of times on MC and DBQs but not much on FRQs. What are the general rules about writing an FRQ? How long should it be? is it like a short answer with one big paragraph, or is it an essay with around 5 paragraphs?

Usually you should try to write an essay with an intro, a conclusion, and 2-3 body paragraphs.
