Lol, I just realized that my mom will be at an APA conference tomorrow. Lol at the irony.

82 - The answer is definitely D. The overjustification effect occurs when intrinsic motivation disappears to do a task. Group B, not receiving candy, would enjoy doing the task for intrinsic rather than extrinsic factors. This would lead Group A to not want to do these tasks without extrinsic motivators - proof of being overly justified.

83 - Yes, this is self-serving bias. Self-serving bias also occurs when most people think they are better than average. That’s not the primary definition, but it’s definitely the only answer that makes sense on that question anyway.

@ImSoAmbitious

for number 82, when the candy kids were offered candy, the incentive diminishes whatever intrinsic motivation they initially had for solving the puzzle. Additionally, the cause behind the overjustification effect is because the group who was offered incentives(in this case, the candy kids) became so fixated/attracted to the reward they would no longer pay any attention to the currrent task they should get done in order to get that award(in other words, they’re too concentrated in daydreaming to get the work done)

Ok, thanks, I had the definition of overjustification wrong. It is still a little bit confusing for me because personally, I would be motivated even more to get the candy, but that is irrelevant. For self-serving bias, I guess it makes the most sense, but after looking through multiple sources, I have not found that definition.

any guesses on what the free responses will be?

frq question guesses anyone?

I think it is just applying some of the concepts to certain situations and apply research knowledge to design and experiment.

Anyone know where I can access the FRQs on AP Central?

[AP: Psychology](<a href=“AP Psychology Exam – AP Students | College Board”>AP Psychology Exam – AP Students | College Board)

Ok, I think I’m getting the hang of these FRQs. I think the key is to BS and write stuff down, anything that comes to mind about it. They look for very little, and even accept incorrect information if it is in context. Also, plan out for a few minutes before doing the FRQ. Does anyone know how much time we should spend on each question/planning stage?

You may not use the term in your example after you give the definition. On the 2011, it say you must say grouping after chunking

Ex. Chunking is grouping information to help encode. Chunking information will help in remembering the info.

The guideline says this is incorrect as I am not using grouping the second time. This is annoying, but you could get 0 if you don’t do it.

What’s the difference between sensory adaptation and habituation?

does the barrons practice tests at the end of the review book correctly measure the validity of the AP test?

Ok some I will bring pens, pencils, eraser, snack, ID, watch, paperwork, SSN, and phone
anything else
- I will have my phone off in my bag, I will not take it out until I exit the school
- Is this fine, I don’t want to get in trouble, but how will i get my dad to pick me up?
- this exam is at another school. for the exam Im taking at my current school, they said to bring a snack for the break, but college board says not to bring one?
- im taking it at a different school, extra things i need? I will bring an id, ssn, school code, and ap number

Also I have a 7 hour energy shot, and some coffee/tea. I will probably make coffee/tea in the morning, and then take the shot with breakfast. this is a good idea?

ANyone know about logisitics? start, end, break times…

preventing hand cramps?

Thanks, another tips; its my first standardized exam

For the phone thing, I usually take out the its battery before the test. This way, you know that there is no way it would accidentally turn on and make noises!

@Hangernator

Pulled from wikipedia:

Habituation is the decrease of a response to a repeated eliciting stimulus that is not due to sensory adaption or motor fatigue. Sensory adaptation (or neural adaptation) occurs when an animal can no longer detect the stimulus as efficiently as when first presented and motor fatigue suggests that an animal is able to detect the stimulus but can no longer respond efficiently. Habituation as a nonassociative process, however, is a learned adaption to the repeated presentation of a stimulus, not a reduction in sensory or motor ability

Good luck today guys, hopefully it’s a good test.

The FRQ will most likely ask things to do with research methods. Although this might not be the case, I have heard that almost every year there is a question of experimentation/designing your own experiment.

If there is not a question like this, we will definitely need to be prepared to answer some situation-specific vocabulary terms. They may present us with a story and tell us to apply a list of vocab words to a story. Hopefully they just give us the list of words so that we can use our own examples…but the story might contain some “retrieval cues” to help us with remembering the terms ;).

Again, good luck everyone! It shouldn’t be too bad, don’t stress it!
