I’d say definitely use up all 20 second. According to my teacher, it’s better to BS the full 20 seconds than to finish way too early.
Any useful words/phrases to use in essays/orally?
@canunot. I used the 2014 audio prompts and recorded myself speaking with my iPhone. Last year’s conversation prompt is available at AP Central (http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/exam/exam_information/4554.html).
so last minute, what are impt hispanic events/people we should be able to bring up? like bolivar, etc
Can someone please explain the comparison essay/ give me some examples? Our teacher has taught us literally nothing and because of this I am the only idiot taking the exam (and I don’t feel prepared).
I know I’m supposed to compare my life/ situation to another, hisanic culture, but how exactly do I do this? Can somebody please explain and give me some tips and examples so I don’t completely fail this section tomorrow? Lol thanks in advance!
@HankGreen Depends. I think if you can speak for the whole 20 seconds while having some level of decent grammar, then do that. You can completely miss one or two of the responses in the conversation and still get A 3 or 4
what did you guys think? i ran out of time to say goodbye for the conversation
I thought it was extremely easy. I speak Spanish fluently, though.
@canunot, I may or may not have actually said goodbye…I think I did…BUT…during that final portion, some bell in the school I was taking the exam went off, and I think everyone in the room stopped talking, thinking it was the “beep” from the recording…I realized and kept talking once I realized…Maybe they’ll hear that noise on my recording and realize what happened …If we did well but didn’t say goodbye, we’ll probably just get a 3 or 4 on the interpersonal conversation, which should be fine considering it’s only 12.5% of the score.
Overall easier than I thought it would be. MCs were very easy, and I did decently on the writing. Screwed up the conversation because I was too nervous and lost my place halfway through, but I did keep on blabbering. Never practiced a cultural comparison before and I just kept on talking until I got cut off.
Hoping for a 5, but I’m estimating that I got a 4. I really like languages, and I wish I’d had a teacher who actually taught and prepared us. (I like my teacher as a person, just not the best teacher.)
To future test-takers who are reading this and panicking because you have a crappy teacher, you can do it. The revised test is quite easy and is game-able if you memorize certain things. If you speak Spanish, if you understand Spanish, you will be fine.
MC were decent enough. Both essays were fine, as was the cultural comparison speaking part. Completely whiffed on the interpersonal talking though. I probably got a one…I just didn’t know what to say and sort of blanked.
Anyone know how difficult it is to get a 3 on this exam? Apparently to the score distribution from last year, if you don’t score in the bottom 90% you get a 3 or above.
Oh God that’s Sohee in your profile picture right <3__<3
The MC and essays were actually easy for me like Spanish clicked to me all of a sudden lol then I got to the speaking and…yeah I definitely got a 1 on the conversation maybe a 2 on the comparison
HAHA IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO GET THE CULTURAL COMPARISON PROMPT. I was like… How can XXXXXX (can’t post yet) be XXXXXXX? Anyway, I used “creo que,” wayyyyy too much on the interpersonal… Merp, overall was good, though. I thought I killed the fuentes portion at least :P… Essays were also prime.
I doomed myself with the conversation…I needed a 5 on this exam to get some unrestricted elective credit, but I butchered the interpersonal conversation…
Overall, multiple choice was very easy (except for a few listening ones), the essays are always easy for me (I’m pretty good at writing as it is), and the conversation was horrible for me, while the cultural comparison was okay.
I doubt I’ll get anything more than a 4 (that’s best case scenario…). Oh well!
I agree with everyone here. I thought the multiple choice and essays were easy except for one or two audio sections. The presenation was ok, but the conversation went really bad for me (prob got a 2 on that). I lost my place in the outline so I completely missed the last two responses.
Really want a 5 but I messed up on the speaking.
Does anyone know how the scoring works? I.e., how easy/difficult is it to get a 4 or 5?
Pretty sure I nailed the MC (missed 5 worst case), pretty good on the email, great on the essay, pretty good on the conversation, and “eh” on the comparison? Is a 5 possible?
The essay and email were way easy, and the conversation was actually ok for me, but our proctor didn’t give us a timer for the presentation so it was a pain to figure out when to start wrapping it up. Basically everything but audio mult. choice was good.
By the way, is it ok if we only cited the sources in the persuasive essay by putting (Fuente #) after using evidence from that source? My teacher told us to explicitly write, La Fuente # dice que… but I figured that way of writing sounds a bit stiff.
my teacher actually told us to do (Fuente #) b/c it’s easier for the grader to see, so that’s what i did
Does anyone know what the rough percentage is for a 5?
Approx 78%, but that was from before the redesign of the exam.
and the redesign has made the test easier? (and curve worse?)
