***Official AP World History Thread 2014-2015***

I did the second practice test in the latest Barron’s book yesterday and only got a 55/70 on the MC… How was the questions in Barron compared to the actual exam? Many people say a 70% on the MC and around 12 on the essays can get you a 4. Would that be too low? Thanks

I found a website that uploaded the whole 5 Steps to a 5 08-09 book if anyone who doesn’t have a prep book want one: http://www.lindblomeagles.org/ourpages/auto/2012/3/28/58359479/5%20Steps%20To%20A%205%20AP%20World%20History%202008-2009.pdf. And this page which provides many video links to the periods http://www.longbranch.k12.nj.us/Page/10533

I should’ve thought about looking up PERSIA maps before studying. Still marathoning Crash Course and GetAFive videos before heading into PR.

Oh, and i have another question. The test is coming in four days. Is it good to read the short-cut in Barron’s now? Will there be much excessive information there? Thanks

I heard from my teacher that the multiple choice questions are becoming more and more passage based. Idk if this is true, or if this is a good/bad thing, but I hope that the MC practice in my review book is up to date and similar to what I will be actually taking.

I have the memory of a fruit fly, though, and it’s impossible for me to remember anything. Uggh

Does anyone have the college board official practice exam? My teacher gave us a mock exam but it was a very old test. If you do, can you please send me the link? Thanks

@dsi411 thanks for letting me know, I’m basically studying the same way as you. I learned all the stuff in class but I pretty much forget what I learn in class within a month of learning it. Also, our World History curriculum is weird so I learned everything up to 1450 BC last school year and did 1450-present this school year, so the ancient civilizations have completely been erased from my memory lol.

I just read the 1450-1750 chapter in the PR book and took extensive notes on it, which was really helpful but took me hours…

Basically my plan for the next few days is to try to memorize as much as possible from PR. I have literally no time left, I started way too late this year since it’s my first time taking AP tests and I’m used to studying for tests the night before.

Good review video too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1hr7C943ss and website http://mrklaff.com/apworldreviewsheet.html.

Man I’m nervous mostly for the CCOT essay since I feel like I would forget the basic themes of the period or only talk about the changes and not continuities. x_x

I guess I should clarify my original question: basically, will this exam be harder, equal, or easier than APUSH (before it changed)?

@EveningSwan I can’t give you accurate information, but I’ve talked to a lot of juniors who took APUSH this year and who took WHAP during their sophomore year. All of them have told me that APUSH class was much easier for them than WHAP. As for the AP test, most of them still found it hard (I talked to them about it on Friday after their test), but they told me that it was still easier for them than WHAP.

Most seem to tell me that the reason is simply due to WHAP, although focusing on concepts, trends, and connections throughout history, covers a lot more information than APUSH does. They simply couldn’t find the time to remember everything so the majority of them I know made 3’s and 4’s.

@jackwang0703 You can use this calculator that will show you what you will probably get according to your multiple choice and essay scores.

http://appass.com/calculators/world

I entered in the values you said (55/70, 12 total for essays), and it gives a very high 4. In fact, if you bump up one of your essay’s score by one point for a total of 13 for the essays, it gives you a low 5. This is a 2007 curve and they change the curve every year, but this gives you a good estimate on what to expect.

I have both the Princeton and Barron’s prep books. I’ve been using the Princeton so far for actual reading but the Barron’s short cut seems good for getting the overall concept. If you feel like you need to brush up on specifics and details, then I wouldn’t recommend only using the short cut. However, if you feel like you would prefer getting a big picture concept of trends that occurred through history, the Barron’s short cut seems great. I’ve read the first 3 periods of history in the Barron’s short cut.

Is anyone willing to grade my DBQ I wrote during a practice test I took today? I did the 2014 DBQ prompt.

anyone else studying for apwh? I found a quizlet page that posts all the classroom’s old tests, vocabulary quizzes, dates quizzes, and practice exams. it’s for anyone who is self-studying or taking the class… It’s a classroom though and they usually accept people because they accepted a bunch of my friends. i think it will help everyone!!

If you guys are interested, let me know and I will send you the link to the quizlet page!

@neoking Thank you! I have actually done the released exam in 2007(only the MC) and got a 57/70. I found that calculator before and entered my score. But if you look at the stats on ap central, the exam is getting harder because there are less people getting 4 or above. So i guess we need to set higher goals for the essays. I believe with a 50/70 and a 15 on the essays can get me a low 4.

@neoking I can grade your DBQ.

We did a pilot exam for the new AP World History exam that’s coming in the 16-17 school year and there were so many passages…

Like there would be a 3 paragraph passage and then you’d have to answer 4-5 questions about it. It was also 44 questions in 45 minutes instead of 60 questions in 55 minutes. I’m happy that I’m not in that year because all those passages are hard. Hopefully they’ll see that we performed bad and change it for the future students.

I love the tone of voice in the Princeton Review book. It’s so casual and colloquial, and the language is simplified so that’s it’s easy to read. The section headings are full of personality and punny/cheesy, too, lol.

“The Factory System: Efficiency (Cough), New Products (Choke), Big Money (Gag)”
“Independence Can’t Happen Without a Little Paine”
“US Foreign Policy: This Hemisphere is Our Hemisphere”
“The Estates General: Generally a Mess”
“Chinese Women: One Bound to Lead, Most Just Bound” (referring to Empress Wu and food-binding)

@jackwang0703 Remember that your score and the general curve is based on how well everyone else does. If in one year everyone does amazing, then getting 50/70 and a 15 on the essays might just give you a 3. If in one year most people do poorly (like last year - actually, pretty much every year), then getting a decent score like that will earn you a 5. The Princeton Book talks about this before you read. Your scores are entirely dependent on how well others do. In theory, you would want others to do poorly so you could stand out and get the higher grade.

But we’re human, so I hope we don’t feel that way towards each other. Then again, after studying this much world history, people really do suck :expressionless:

@neoking Exactly! To be honest, i really learned a lot through my independent study. And it gives me a desire to gain more knowledge in other ap courses.

I keep reading conflicting info…Is there still a ten-minute reading period not included in the 120 minutes, and is it mandatory?
