I didn’t see any thread for this already, so here it is. Please feel free to post anything here relevant to the discussion of the Collegeboard AP World History 2012 examination.

Good luck noobs! Read your textbook as assigned in the class and you’ll get a 5, that’s it. Don’t read though and you’ll get a C in the class and a 3 on the exam.

Read the book, pay attention in class, complete all of your assignments, and study a little bit everyday a month before the exam - you should get a 5 then. I know people who only read about half the book and had B’s in the class who crammed like crazy two weeks before the exam and got a 4, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

I know this thread is a bit early, but does anyone know which prep book and flashcards helped them on previous AP World History exams? I’ve heard Princeton Review is popular, but it’s also vague. I’ve also heard Kaplan has more accuate practice tests. Which one did you think was more beneficial?

^ I used Barron’s to review for ~1-2 weeks and got a 5. Flashcards aren’t really necessary, the ap exam doesn’t really test like specific leaders and stuff.

I used Barron’s as well and I got a 5. I started preparing about three weeks before the exam - I read the whole book from front to back and took all the practice tests. It’s a little dense and some of the material in the book is unnecessary, but overall not a bad book. The general consensus among my friends was that Princeton was more concise while Barron’s more in-depth, although I know people who used Princeton and got a 5 too. :)

I got a 4 with PR. If you thoroughly read your text book then PR should be fine because it goes over general concepts which the class is all about but if you feel like you a very detailed review, go with barrons.

I bought Barron’s but couldn’t really get through it (All I ended up using it for was practice tests/essays). Just read the textbook you had in class thoroughly the entire year and you won’t really have any need to cram before the exam. I got a 5, and the essays were just intuitive. Don’t freak out too much, it’s one of the easier AP’s (designed for Sophmores).

We used World Civilizations by Stearns; if you’re using that book, you should be set for a 5.

What’s the best textbook to buy for a self-study? World Civilizations is really expensive everywhere ^ Would Traditions and Encounters suffice and be more than enough for a 5?
Thanks!

Just some advice…you might want to wait for a prep book because they might update it with the new format of the exam (4 choices, different % questions by era). If my rescore doesn’t work out, I might be a big poster in this thread, hahah

^darn. I just saw that they had revised the exam when I was looking up the new AP Bio… >.<

I bought it off Amazon, so I can’t really return it…any advice on what I should do?

Sell it to a friend who doesn’t know the exam has been revised haha

Do you think I could self study AP World using only the barrons prep book?

TEST DATE:
Week 2
Thrus. May 17 8 a.m.

Good luck everybody!

haha! Im in the exact same situation as you bro. Waitin to see if the score changed.

Dusterburg, I never opened by textbook (okay one time) and I got a 5.

The class at my school was really easy although that’s mainly because of the teacher.

Since I never opened the textbook. I used the Barron’s book. I would reccomend that since it is much more in depth than PR which is a much more concise review book. The other diffference between the two is that PR tests are harder which make for better practice. ie. night before the test i got a 65/70 on the Barron’s one and a 60/70 on the PR.

@Chappen, I think you could, I honestly didn’t learn a lot from my APWH class that wasn’t in the book.

May 17! That’s pretty far into May!
I’m self-studying this using Barron’s and Traditions and Encounters, 2nd edition.

I only read the last 3 chapters of my textbook, didn’t even look at the other pages. Reading Barron’s the week before the test was enough to snag me a 5.

I’m taking this class next year, so I’m hoping to do good after my fail in APES (teacher was horrendus). Any tips on the class?

Anyone know if the prep books are up to date with recent test changes?
