Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
I showed in my essay how much of a hard-working student I was and felt it was an accurate reflection of my resilience and hard work throughout high school. It also explained why I wasn’t enrolled in that many APs until my senior year because of personal issues I was going through, and I feel like my senior year course load showed my ambition to improve from that.

General Comments: Accepted for Spring not fall, but still very happy! Wasn’t expected to get in at all, as I got waitlisted to both UCSD and UCLA, but it was a pleasant surprise!

Decision: Accepted

General Comments
I’m not really good at testing, but my writing skills are on point… I wrote my essays about my life struggle and my passion for yearbook. I have lots of community service, editor-in-chief of my school’s award-winning yearbook, honor roll, etc. My twin sister was also accepted!

*I was accepted to UCSD, UC Davis & their honor program (They’re flying me there!), University of Michigan with a Full Ride, and rejected from UCLA. These are my most significant acceptances.

**I received a supplemental application as well that allowed me to submit a letter of recommendation! (:

Rejected. Ah well, I was expecting it anyways. I’ll happily attend UCSB or UCSD engineering (my only choices at this point.
Congrats to those who got in! :)

Rejected for CoE, danngggg
I guess Berkeley wasn’t for me. Stats were slightly below average for EECS :S

Decision: Accepted (Spring 2015)

Stats:[ul]
[] College/Major Applied To: L&S

[] Senior Yr Courseload: Integrated English IV, Integrated Gov/Econ, Integrated Science IV, Integrated Math IV, AP Calculus (the only AP class @ my school)
[] Other stats (Awards, etc.): Nope.

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: - Music Lessons in Drums, Guitar, Bass, Violin, and Vocals since middle school; also participated in school’s music elective for 1.5 years
- Robotics Team for a tournament (Co-President and Solidworks Officer)
- Video editing both for school and personal enjoyment
- Drama - got a role in school musical during my Senior Year [mistakenly left this out in my application, sent in the corrections to the UC App offices on February (which is way too late DON’T DO THAT!)]
- Afterschool Math Program
- Mentorship/Internship at a local music store for school’s senior project
- Recreational Math elective class for a semester
- Weekend Chinese Class at a local Buddhist temple
- Pre-Calc summer class @ my school
[] Job/Work Experience: None.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I did the ‘my world’ one on how my family’s dire financials had led me to only pursue what I determine to really matter to me (and that would be building robots, learning about the human mind, and cognitive science). And for the one about ‘talent, quality, accomplishment, experience that matters to you’, I did mine on how I refused my friend’s offer to level up my League of Legends account because I value getting my own achievements and learning from my own mistakes.
[] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): None.

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: California.
[] Classified in-state?: In-state.
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Public, charter-like but not really. Small-sized (500 people). Unique. Project-based. Requires 200 hours of community service to graduate. No AP classes provided (so no weighed GPA’s), but they let kids w/ 3.0 GPA’s go take college classes at Cal Poly Pomona. Grading system is different. No advanced math programs until the recent AP Calc class. No music program. No sports program until recently.
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: 27K
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation college student, immigrant, school is unique, low-income, Dad’s deaf (though I definitely did not let that overwhelm my whole application, since I really hate to use him as an excuse for anything), series of family unemployment recently
[] Strengths: My hooks, I guess. The one time where having crap finances helps.
[] Weaknesses: Leadership only in senior year, SAT and GPA on the lower end of things, 1 AP.
[] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: No clue. But not complaining for sure.
[/ul]Other Factors: My school is really weird. Story’s been going around that sure, the grade deflation here hurts everyone’s OOS chances, but it really helps our chances w/ CA schools, since they tend to know how hard it is to maintain good grades here.

Accepted!! CoLAS. Didn’t expect to get in. SAT’s not that great. I have also been accepted by Williams College. Waitlisted: Duke, Colby. Rejected: UChicago( first choice), Whitman( don’t know why), Rice, WUSTL. Still waiting on Amherst, Swarthmore and Wesleyan. I am only going to decide between Cal and Williams. It’s going to be a hard deciding.

D was accepted. So happy!
Out of state, SATs - 2180, GPA 3.92
Class rank - top 5%
So excited to visit!

does anybody know how many people got in from the waitlist last year? and how many were waitlisted?

Previous common data sets indicate that Berkeley tends to put only about 100-200 on the wait list (unlike some other schools which put thousands on the wait list). It also looks like most/all or none are admitted off the wait list, presumably depending on the yield of regularly admitted applicants (i.e. if yield is lower than expected, the wait list applicants are admitted).

Internationan Waitlisted EECS…Should I be happy or should I appeal?
Also, SUCK IT UCLA

Don’t worry about the waitlist. l think everyone got off the waitlist last year.
