I wonder why…not that I’m overly upset, but I’m curious.

@BAMdrea:
strange stuff, my friend (3/440, similar stats to yours) was also rejected. but he got into ucla, wpi, and rpi, so he doesn’t really care ;]

aw, he got ucla! lucky kid. I was rejected from there too, the day before I got SLO’s rejection. not a good weekend :(

WHOA. These rejections are kind of whack. Many of you seriously have GPAs and stats lots of the higher-tier UCs would LOVE, LOVE. I heard some people complaining that Cal Poly SLO was hard to get into and their admissions was kind of…different. Not exactly sure if it is true or not, but from what I’m seeing on this thread, it seems qualified to say.

Good luck to all of you.

^^ here’s hoping you’re right… about the UC part :)

I looked over your stats, with a 4.0 GPA filled with APs, along with a decent SAT score, you’ll be taken by the mid UCs (UCI, UCSB, UCD). I have a lower GPA and around the same stats as you and even I got accepted to UCI. Sorry you got rejected from UCLA, all the people who got in at my school had over 4.2+ GPAs loaded with APs. UCLA had over 60,000+ applicants this year, so yeah, along with all the funding issues, tough luck.

4.4 GPA (W)

Biological Sciences.

However, as of this moment, I’m having a lot of regrets with the major I chose. Does anyone know if it’s possible to change majors this early?

My son was Accepted! (last month)

I’m still astonished that I got in. Waiting on word from UCSB :)

Some on here have said they think mostly people from So Cal got rejected. Actually it could be the opposite. If you are far away from the college, you actually probably stand a better chance of getting in. I was told by an advisor at a college that this happens sometimes. It can be a factor in the admissions process.

Distance and major are more important than GPA. It seems.

But maybe SLO just wants to be different than other schools and it isn’t any one factor. They just judge on a case by case basis. :)

Then again what do I know; I was accepted but they’ll probably break my heart and cancel on me later on. :(

General Comments:

Is anyone taking into account work experience in the admissions process. I would believe cal poly gives a large advantage to those who have work experience related to their major because of their learn by doing philosophy. I also read from another member that cal poly does not accept students who have stellar stats since they will more than likely end up going to a better school and they will be wasting one of their admissions positions. If Cal Poly was your #1 choice and your stats are very high, why didn’t you decide to apply early decision? Early decision separates those who are sure they want to attend cal poly and those who are waiting to review the colleges they get into to make a decision, so the early decision candidates have a slight advantage.
