Accepted as Chemistry Major,
GPA:3.48(I forgot to include my freshman year grades in the calculation…but that would have improved my gpa)
ACT:34

Accepted as an English Major:

GPA: 3.61 at time of admission (now 3.71)
SAT:1750 (550M,550R,650W)
Extracurriculars: Yearbook Sports Editor, Varsity Swim
Note: I had about a 2.9GPA at the beginning of Junior year and brought it up to the GPA i applied with by Senior year…I think the positive trend may have helped me out tremendously.

Congrats to everyone else who got accepted!
13 other people from my school got accepted as well.

@PiKahCh00

Ahhh. Any SAT IIs, ECs?

Lol, cause that’s my dream! Aha.

Good job xbanhcuonx!

My son was in a similar bind, but even with straight A’s second semester Junior year, only got to a 3.1! No AP’s or H’s though.

I am sorry to hear that your son was not accepted at CP. Mechanical Engineering is one of the hardest to get into. Having visited UC Riverside with my son, I advise against going there and choosing UCSB. I actually don’t know what the ME department is like at either school, but the campus at UCR is pretty sad. It just seems rundown and of course the weather is way too hot! Of course it depends on where you live, but it was also very far from the Bay Area where we are from. UCSB has a similar feel to CP and the weather of course is wonderful! There is more to do in the towns around UCSB too. Just my opinion. Best of luck to your son.

It is intersting that a perception of a school can be so varied depending on where you come from, etc.

I actually really like UCR, know some folks there in the sciences, and it is quite rigorous. They are preparing to begin a med school soon.

My S is seriously considering this school: likes the feel of it, etc. Weather isn’t a concern for us coming from Northern CA. It’s also a quite diverse campus, which adds to the flavor of the school.

good luck! :)

in addition to applying to SLO and CAL, i also applied to Davis and Santa Barbara (guaranteed admission, elc) i also applied to SFSU as a safety, but i really don’t want to attend that school.

I would encourage your son to visit the campus. SLO is a really nice school and is well worth the money. i have a few relatives that have graduated from SLO and now have jobs at Northrop Grumman with desirable salaries.

Has anyone been accepted into the art department or graphic communications yet?
