****official cal poly slo class of 2018 decisions****

Gotta love an admissions office that not only is so disorganized, but doesn’t show up to work until noon!

I simply don’t get this…ugggh!! What are the parents here doing about securing housing at other colleges? (while CP spends the next several weeks in process.) Accept, pay deposit, apply for housing then cancel and lose money if CP takes our kids?? That feels wrong to me.

I had a D in SFSU and before she decided she wanted to go there, I applied for housing because it is so difficult at the school. If she decided not to attend there, I would have been refunded the $. If your child has been accepted to and plans to attend (if not accepted to Cal Poly) a university where housing is limited, I would pay the $ because if you don’t, they may not have it available later and then the student may have to live off campus.

I keep reading on here that people believe that the Cal Poly SLO admission’s office doesn’t come into work until noon. What I understood is that their phone service is available starting at noon. I assume that they come into work at around 8 am and probably do some other task until noon when they begin answering phones. Just my thoughts

Is computer science more competitive than software engineering?

Oh, I believe they start work early. They just don’t take phone calls till noon so they can actually get some work done! @joyful - unless you know the college doesn’t have enough housing, I would just wait and see. We have most of our app results still to come in late March.

@cgreico Congrats on today’s news!!!
I am waiting on Art and Design too. What are your stats? Have you heard of other art/design people get in?

@jna643 Thank you! I haven’t heard of any other art/design peeps getting in.
Full IB student
About a 3.8 weighted GPA
1950 SAT
Internship at Magazine
Multiple Jobs
4 year photo student

I hope that helps! Not sure if I will go to SLO but now it is definitely a possibility.

Just want to remind you that stats don’t tell everything. I believe 35% of students who are accepted are from families with out one or both parents without HS diplomas, and/or first in family to go to college, and/or from a low performing school, these students get bonus points due to their not having all the opportunities at better schools etc., so without knowing what the family situation is for students entering with lower stats, you can’t really compare. Frustrating I know, but then at most schools essays (which can be bought) and interviews (which they can receive training and help) etc. figure in so statistics aren’t everything. Also Music and I believe Art and Design require portfolios which probably account for a lot in acceptance decisions. So hard to wait I know.

Still no changes to my daughter’s portal. @joyful1, housing is definitely an issue! I know that Humboldt’s housing starts March 3rd, and Chico is March 17th. Ugh!

@joyful1, CDSMOM and quiteacharmer: I wish the CSU system worked like the UC system in regards to housing. The UC’s will start looking at housing requests after the May 1 SIR deadline which gives everyone an equal chance. My son will probably enroll at SDSU if he is rejected from SLO. Their housing applications are available early March with a $375 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit, so I hope SLO hurries up with the acceptances. Ugh!!! is an understatement.

Still waiting on Computer Science
UC/CSU GPA: 4.31
SAT: 2100
Getting very nervous, since a lot of people heard back.

Just had a heart to heart with our daughter, time to decide which schools are out and what is 2nd choice. She is now wanting to look into Cuesta for 2 years and go for a transfer…help me! I wanted less options not more!

Oh wow, @joyful1!! That’s a big switcheroo. I would be too nervous to have my daughter move down there without the safety of living on campus…but that’s just me being OVERprotective! I made my oldest daughter live on the HSU campus for her first 2 years. She finally get’s to move off campus this fall, and I have to say that she is just now ready (or maybe Mom is just now ready!). What about Chico? Did your daughter decide against it?

@kghazouli Pretty sure you’ll be alright.

@CDSMOM, no, Chico is her second choice. As far as off campus living goes, slo has dorm style housing off campus for the overflow from CP and to house Cuesta kids. It’s called Stenner Glen, they have a cafeteria on site, tutors, laundry, security etc…of course it is not in any way the same as on campus living, but a nice transition arrangement, vs straight to fully living on own. Our older daughter lived in slo for 5 years, middle daughter lived there (not attending school) for a year, so we are really comfortable with the town. Feels like home to us!

Stenner Glen sounds like a pretty nice option! And with SLO being like a second home to your family, Cuesta might be a great choice. But I can understand the “too many” options scenario. My daughter added UOP late in the game just to add “options”. I really just want ONE option please.

What are the details for transferring from Cuesta to SLO? Is Cuesta on of the better JCs around? My Son is interested in going to the JC here if he does not get into a top choice … but I don’t know if I really see it as a step forward. More of like high school without attendance. LOL!

CDSMOM, Humboldt starts accepting Housing Aps on Monday and there is very limited housing there. So it’s a $500 deposit only $300 of which is refundable. So if there’s the slightest chance your kid is going there… We bumped into same thing with University of Oregon, though I believe they refund 100% if you don’t enroll.

Thanks @lab317! I already have a student at Humboldt, and I agree that Housing there is very limited! @joyful1 's daughter has Humboldt as an option, so she might take your advice! My youngest refuses to go to HSU, probably because she doesn’t want to follow in her sister’s footsteps. It would be so much easier if she did!!!
