I havent really seen more than one or two 1200 acceptances into any of the land grant colleges on these boards (unless the student is exceptional in another way or from a very underrepresented state)..in fact, I don't think I have met one kid at cornell in my four years being here with 1200-1290 SATs...so don't give me that...let me see the acceptance letter and ill believe it...thank you gomestar..at least someone knows what im takling about. Additionally, there are MANY kids in the state schools that are out of state....so if you don't know what you are talking about on these threats..please don't speak....they obvioulsy care about SATs and not just gpa's.

No, I haven't seen the acceptance letter but she called to tell me and I heard her mother yelling at her about choosing Buffalo. So, yeah, I doubt it was a lie. It could be, but I HIGHLY doubt it. She's not the lying type. :)

i have met two 1200 SAT people here at Cornell ... but, they were both recruited athletes so their grades and SATs didnt matter as much when it came to admissions.

I can't understand why somebody would pick buffalo over Cornell unless it was for dire financial or family reasons. For the record, SUNY Buffalo is not in the city of buffalo. It's in the northern suburbs and you'd need either a car or public transportation to go into the city. Secondly, students at Buffalo dont go into the city to have a good time (I have loads of friends there). They stay on campus ... "in the middle of nowhere" really isn't an issue in this case. I dont see the advantages Buffalo has that Cornell doesn't. Buffalo was my safety school for a reason.

Also, "array of options?" ... has she not seen the cornell course book? 4,500 courses isn't a type-o. She'll have requirements to take, but the majority of her courses will still be electives. Clearly she is uninformed about the program and what Cornell has to offer.

thanks gomestar for agreeing with me. i still urge emmared78 to talk some sense into his friend. buffalo is not the place to be. UB is a great regional school- you'll get a job in the western ny, erie penn area but not much options.

what school did she go to?

well how can you really know what every1 at cornell scored on the sat? do you go around campus asking people?

i got my likely letter today in the mail. The admissions website now says "your decision"
with the words:
Dear XXXXXXx,

Congratulations on your acceptance to Cornell University! We are very pleased to be welcoming you to the new freshman class.

This electronic message is not your official acceptance notification. You should be receiving an official acceptance letter from us in the mail shortly.

In the meantime, we want you to know that we are excited at the prospect of your joining the Cornell community and know that you will make a very positive contribution to the university as a future Cornellian. Please let us know if we can assist you in any way.

Best regards,

Cornell University

that's not a likely...that's an acceptance. a likely says "we are very likely to offer you admission. please wait to see what our FA package is if you were thinking about accepting somewhere else" or something like that.

does human ecology send out likelys?

Damn! I want my AEM decision now! lol. The app. was completed sometime during January.

Haha, I'm a patient person, though.

I got in today (2/25 I think...)! WoOt!

Out of state, New England
GPA: 3.9ish
SATS: Old 730V/800M, New 800CR/760M/800WR, Bio E 780, US Hist 800, Writing 770, Math 2C 800
APs: two fives on histories, four on lit so far
Classes: most difficult in my school --- I've taken the maximum number of APs and honors (except Spanish freshman year) I have been able to in my school, independent studies this year and last (extra classes I wanted to take but the school didn't offer/I couldn't fit into my schedule --- I didn't take calc early or anything)
ECs: pretty good, mostly math/science/environmental with some singing and a bunch of non-varsity sports mixed in for fun; the past few summers I did programs that were not especially prestigious but biology related and amazingly fun
Awards: a book award from an ivy (not Cornell), national merit finalist (I actually didn't tell them more than finalist, though), went to and placed at the nationals at science team

I think I got in partly because of my grades/test scores, but also because I love biology and environmental science, and I think that this came across through my recommendations, activities and essays.

I've been accepted to a couple of other schools. I'm not sure if I'll attend CALS, but I absolutely love environmental/biology the courses that they offer.

hey! can you guys post which majors you got into at CALS? Congratulations!!!!

Also , when did you guys send your application?

Well I sent my application in early December and still haven't recieved a decision so I don't think it has much to do with when the application was recieved? What about alphabetically? Or do they do it by dept.? I applied to AEM.

I applied really early, sometime between October 20 and November 20. (Sorry I can't be more specific; I just don't remember.) I was admitted into the Biological Sciences/Bio major (I can't remember the exact name), which was my first choice and the most logical one based on my ecs/interests; my second choice was environmental science. I'm not particularly close to the front or the end of the alphabet.

I don't mean to gloat or be tactless/mean, but the rep at the admission talk that I went to implied (I thought) that the people who seem like the "best fit" get admitted first.

Good luck to everyone. Try not to worry too much!

I don't believe any AEM applicants heard yet... relax!
